Just spitballing (and semi concern trolling) here, but, if even if we assume Gates is good at deciding where his philanthropic dollars should be spent, shouldn’t we want those decisions to be made while he is alive to make them? Isn’t waiting until you die before giving a large chunk of your money to a charity that was closely held and largely driven by your individual preferences a recipe for “failson” charities that get a sudden influx of cash and spend it really inefficiently because the person who had the original vision for the charity is no longer around to carry out the vision?
