When the Ukraine call “transcript” was released, there was some speculation as to significant missing material based on the length of the transcript vs. the duration of the call. There was also confusion about Zelensky’s English proficiency and what language he would have been speaking on the call.
According to this week’s New Yorker, that issue is resolved:
In the call, Zelensky, who is speaking Ukrainian and using an interpreter, is generous with his praise, mentioning that he stayed at the Trump International Hotel and Tower on Central Park. “I just wanted to assure you once again that you have nobody but friends around us,” he says.
I’m not sure if this was known before, but it was news to me. Article is also worth reading for detailed background on the whole situation.

BuzzFeed found an eight-year profit model
The first batch of documents include 500 pages of summaries of FBI interviews with witnesses, according to summaries and documents shared by BuzzFeed News. The news outlet said that new records will be released every month for the next eight years.
I’m only like 50 pages in, but it’s all Hillary emails and WikiLeaks dump, it seems the RNC was aware of the timing of the release before it happened.
I saw the same. I kind of want to start from the end and work backwards.
I’m going slow trying to make out the handwritten sections.

Trump team at time of Mueller probe:

Most crimes didn’t complete because of incompetence, and because of people not willing to complete the crimes.
Trump team now:
- Incompetent idiots
- Filled with people doing all the crimes
The incompetence hasn’t changed, but the willingness to do crimes is off the charts. This time the incompetence defense doesn’t work, but they’re trying. The big difference is that the whistle had been blown well before the aid had been released. This would be a much bigger scandal if it had broken a couple of weeks sooner (or if Schiff had been notified a complaint hadn’t been turned over even a couple of days sooner), and it’s already plenty big enough.
As was said last night, it looks like the ‘public defense’ is going to be that quid pro quos are okay, which won’t work.

Seems like really good timing for the release of this stuff based on how Flynn’s defense of his guilty plea is going.
I’m struck too by what seems to be a perpetual ire from Trump toward Ukraine that has a lot to do with him defending Manafort.
I’m not sure how many people remember this, but in the middle of the Ukraine scandal it was found out that Trump got the previous Ukraine government to punish people in Ukraine who were cooperating with the Mueller probe. That effectively ended the kind of cooperation that nailed Manafort and Gates very early on.
