The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Unconstitutional Slop

This kind of take goes here.

I mean long term was he wrong? What happened next was an opportunistic infection.

Look when the republican party actually dies i.e. the dems have 60 in the senate for more than a microsecond I’m perfectly happy to revisit this kind of take but until then things like the linked thread are disgustingly arrogant in hindsight. The GOP is not going to lose viability in any real way for at least the next 5 years.

I think you mean 2015.

I actually think Obama publicly advocating for elimination of the filibuster was a pretty big deal, assuming Democrats sweep. Centrist establishment types worship him, that permission means something.

m4a, then lose an election, then another disastrous reactionary administration, then high speed rail, followed by another disastrous reactionary administration, and in 30 years we’ll be almost where japan was 10 years ago

Most sympathies. I have no comprehension but I saw my experience of my parents losing two children at young ages and I have a hard time identifying anything that would be more deveststing.

As long as the system works the same for poor people. It does, doesn’t it?

The sheer number of barriers to a viable third party make it nearly impossible to happen. It’s why Trump ran as a Republican rather than creating his own party.

Catching up but the right move is to electrify the Biden yard sign, accidentally.

On the whole I agree with you, but there is a chance for a substantial reduction in Republican power in the next year: redistricting. In the wake of what could be a fairly substantial reckoning against the GOP at not just the federal but also state level, the people doing the redistricting this time around will likely be a lot more blue. I figure in a lot of states Dems will handicap themselves with non-partisan maps rather than gerrymandering right back like they should, but that’s still a substantial reduction in Republican power in therms of both House representation and control of state legislatures.
