Lots of countries sent aid for Katrina. Bangladesh sent $1M. Afghanistan sent money for Katrina. And I’m sure Katrina wasn’t the first time.

The international community sends us aid every time we have a disaster.

Those were just two examples that stood out in my memory, for whatever reason.

Then 11 years later we elected build the wall and make Mexico pay for it guy.

Boy we deserve every bit of embarrassment, humiliation and humbling we’re getting right now.

Mexico (and lots of Central America) also unofficially sent an enormous amount of undocumented labor that rebuilt New Orleans. Every one of those guys and their families should have been granted citizenship on the spot because this city would have taken many more years to get to where it is now without them.

I’ve been thinking about spending the winter in Canada and this is something I’ve been concerned about. Driving up is ideal, but I’d be in a truck with US plates. The alternative would be taking the train, but then I’d have to spend 8 hours on a damn train.

travelling by train >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> travelling by plane

I actually like train rides. They really aren’t that bad especially if it’s an overnight sleeper.

And when it’s not a disaster they still did lots of the building, manufacturing, harvesting, food processing, nursing, etc, etc and should all be as free to come and go north of the border as any of us are.

I’m with you on this, was just expanding on what I saw personally and heard from many involved in the rebuild.

Yeah, I prefer train travel and have done it all over the world. But I sure as fuck don’t want to be on one for 8 hours in the midst of a pandemic.

I took Amtrak from Philly to Florida last year in coach. No way in hell I’d do that during a pandemic.

Haha once a day my Twitter feed opens up to a Tiedrich tweet and laugh.

In like “Why is this guy always at the top of my feed reminding me of the shithole country I live in”? :grimacing:

I’d take trains over planes any day. Plus, nobody uses trains for intercity travel in America. I doubt they’re full on a regular basis.
