If there are no elections, her term expires before Jan 20th

OK so how will it play out? Trump announces the election is canceled. Then what? Give a realistic scenario. Not some oh WAAF bullshit.

Is there a badge for something beyond WAAF? Cuz WAAF seems to be an undersell at this point

I wouldn’t be able to do it as well as cuse just did. I know you think the WAAF people are being ridiculous right now, but you don’t seem to have fully grasped that we are all the way into uncharted territory here. Super extreme events are more likely in this spot than anything in the normal spectrum.

I just want to know what’s coming out that this election canceling crap is meant to distract us from. Was it that he killed Herman Cain or something else?

It’s the 2Q economic numbers probably that explain why today was the day he kicked off the advanced election fuckery for real.

Not sure what you’re talking about, Larry Kudlow says the economy is booming.

I hope Trump is watching the service for John Lewis. I hope he’s watching the inspiring eulogies and I hope he understands that he will never get anything remotely resembling this when he dies. Instead he will get a seemingly endless line of Americans willing to wait for hours for the chance to piss on his grave.

What makes you think that 10 million people in the streets is enough to save us in that scenario?

Why waste hopes? 0.0% chance Trump is watching this.

The problem with Cuse’s scenario is if a state doesn’t hold an election, they won’t be represented in Congress.

Look, I get it. I know Trump will try to cancel the election. I’m not naive to think there won’t be shenanigans. All I’m saying is this specific action of postponing or canceling the election won’t happen.

I don’t know, I picked a number. 5M is not enough, 50M is more than enough. I figured I should remain somewhat optimistic.

As things stand now, I think it goes to the Supreme Court after your second paragraph, and the court as currently constituted declares Biden the President-elect. This results in Trump negotiating immunity from prosecution in exchange for a peaceful exit.

I’m only saying there is room for optimism here even though that’s not gonna win you any style points. Let’s assume Biden wins and there is successful transition (minimum 33% chance). Couldn’t I argue that the history books will read ā€œEven though America still faced a long, tumultuous journey back to international respectability its citizens at least learned some valuable lessons about democracy.ā€

Fuck man, we’ve all been watching our own soap operas play out for so long that culpability is widespread. Assigning blame is almost a random event.

Dude I am not on team WAAF at all but its easy to see just how incredibly bad and damaging it is to this country to see tweets like this morning’s. And this is only the beginning. We have 3 more months of this stuff and in the end we are literally heading towards a schism in this country unseen since the Civil War.

Honestly cuse’s scenario is pretty close to what I’m imagining. I’ve been convinced for a long time that Trump’s 2020 strategy is to sow enough doubt and create enough chaos surrounding the election that he can claim it was invalid afterwards, at which point it’s a constitutional crisis and it’s unclear where the chips fall.

One way to do that is to have some red states postpone elections. If Florida doesn’t vote on Election Day, there is no world in which Trump and the GOP accept the results.

Another way is to spend a year yelling about voter fraud in mail in ballots. The thing is, he’s absolutely right that mail-in elections are going to be a shit show. Poll monitors are going to be challenging ballots for signatures not matching, missing postmarks, etc, and there are going to be lots of stories about it. It would also be very easy to send in a bunch of fake ballots and point to that as fraud.

His goal here isn’t to craftily postpone the election and hope democrats won’t notice he’s doing it to stay in power. It’s to build a right wing narrative about the election that will provide him enough support from the GOP, their (armed) voters, and the military to stay in office after he loses.

I’m confident in their ability to find a legal argument that can win 5-4 as to why they should keep their current representation. Or the state legislatures will pass some absurd bullshit allowing them to hold absentee elections via electors who are chosen by the state legislature or something.

The world is their oyster. They just have to pick some bullshit John Roberts can say yes to.

Oh I agree with that. I know there will be shenanigans.
