The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: retweets WHITE POWER, condemns Black Lives Matter, regrets criminal justice reform

So trump is going to try to stop social media companies deleting postings? So he wants more child pornography and ISIS propaganda on the net?

Its specifically for discriminating against conservative values like accusing people of murder with no evidence and claiming the presidential election is fraudulent when you’re president

Be careful what you wish for. If Trump gets “censored” by twitter, he’ll probably change platforms to the unblockable presidential wireless emergency alert system.

These bits of the supposed order sound especially totally fine.

The draft order also states that the White House Office of Digital Strategy will re-establish a tool to help citizens report cases of online censorship.

The White House tech bias reporting tool will collect complaints of online censorship and submit them to the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The FTC will then be required to “consider taking action”

The draft order also requires the attorney general to establish a working group including state attorneys general that will examine the enforcement of state laws that prohibit online platforms from engaging in unfair and deceptive acts.

The working group will also monitor or create watchlists of users based on their interactions with content or other users.

Here’s the EO:

Obviously disastrous and intended to intimidate Twitter and Facebook (or, especially, smaller operators with less sophisticated legal resources) into letting Nazis and QAnon trolls run wild in the lead-up to the election. In retrospect, Trump’s bonkers slanders of Joe Scarborough seem intended to have drawn some kind of moderation action to use as a pretext to roll this out.

I was wondering how that desired outcome could be squared with abolishing protection from liability for the platforms, but they seem to want to make the Commerce Secretary the arbiter of what content does and doesn’t lead to protection. So, in effect, if you know Trump and his cronies like it it passes, and if they don’t you can expect lawsuits.

Good job it’s clearly a misinterpretation of the law, and we can expect the legal establishment to sort this one out!

That’s fine. His supporters would actually have to read them.

Will add that based on my reading of the legalese in the order itself the Guardian story is wrong and the Working Group isn’t going to be creating watchlists itself, but investigating what twitter etc. does to create such watchlists to police content.

I don’t get what’s so LOL about that.

Are you trying to argue that a vote is equally valuable in California and in Michigan? LOL you if so.

A national poll is like counting how many items two people bought at the grocery store, when what matters is the price.
