I’d rather them get their money from the private sector, not the public sector.
Presidents do get a pension I believe
Care to expound on why you’d rather your elected representatives got paid through bribery and corruption than for doing the best job they can for their constituents?
I believe you’re correct. They also get lifetime security that is worth a pretty penny. That doesn’t change the fact that it isn’t enough money to retire on for someone who is literally the most powerful person on the planet (with literally the hardest job… you couldn’t give me enough money to do it) for at least four years.
That cop is so fucking psyched to bash some heads. He’s been training his whole life for this!
If everyone is paid millions, nobody is paid millions.
And the president isn’t everybody. Equal pay for equal work imo. Being president is a shitload of work/stress and requires a very rare person whose market value is absolutely massive.
I’ll give you that. I think my problem is that most of the people you mentioned have achieved greatness in their respective fields (even if in Armstrong’s example, by way of cheating). I’m not a huge Obama fan, but he did accomplish something no one else before him has and he and Michelle are excellent role models and terrific at rallying a crowd. The Clintons were mediocre to decent politicians, but with all their baggage, it’s hard to view them as exemplar role models. This rightly or wrongly leads to the perception they are being paid for possible ulterior motives than simply motivating a crowd
Do you really think making a job worth millions of dollars is going to somehow bring out altruism in politicians? lol
Yes.
I read it’s an ad for a clothing line owned by a former army drill sergeant with the ad parts removed
You’d get more white collar business leader types applying for the job than we already have since the salary might not even be a downgrade.
Not to mention $400k or whatever the salary of being President currently is already 1%.
I mean, anyone can write a best seller, not just former politicians. At least that’s what was implied by that guy with all the question marks on his jacket.
I view the book deals differently. People want to know what happened in their own words. I’d be OK with there being an exemption for selling your memoirs. I don’t see how that corrupts anything honestly.
Unless I find out that the politicians aren’t making back their advances. That would worry me considerably.
Barack Obama is a hell of a writer though. Dreams From My Father was a legitimately good book that sold extremely well before he was ever president.
Because once rich people have a certain level of money the no longer try to make gobs more.
Come on you could pay them ten million a year and they would still be charging the same for their speeches after they got out.
Lmao. Wut. He got all his votes in 2016 by basically screeching EMAILS over and over
You are basically saying all politicians and rich people are inherently corrupt.
I’m saying what I said. No matter what you paid them they would not lower their speaking fee.
And he did terribly. Like, fewer votes than Romney. Warren is not nearly as terrible a candidate as Hillary was.
