The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: ORANGE Gettin' PEACHed, Nation Goes BANANAS

NOT THE SAME THING! None of them were supposed to regulate or oversee the people who are paying them now.

Iā€™m going to leave this alone and not even talk about the Clinton foundation lest I start getting called a GOP conspiracy theorist. But you gotta be kidding me that big banks couldnā€™t have found a better use for $8M than to spend it on speeches by the Clinton husband/wife team. HRC alone pulled in $1.8M from big banks in at least 8 speeches. Really? Sheā€™s THAT goddamn good at banking?

Nearly the entire top tier of highly paid speakers are politicians and not celebrities or business leaders. Iā€™m sure thereā€™s nothing to see here lol.

Jesus clovis. Youā€™re either the biggest sucker Iā€™ve ever talked to, or a card carrying member of the system thatā€™s ruining this country and at this point I honestly canā€™t tell which.

This is a super embarrassing line. This stuff is obvious graft and will absolutely be in every history book about this period in the chapter(s) about corruption. You can see this isnā€™t clean money from space.

Iā€™m leaning towards you being part of it though and Iā€™ll tell you why. Pointing out those three non politicians and targeting the amount they got paid per speech is super dishonest. The amount per speech is just one half of the equation. The other half is how many speeches they gave. That someone would pay someone 100k for a speech isnā€™t shameful by itself. That an industry would paid someone 100k for LOTS of speeches is very suspicious. Itā€™s not just about the feeā€¦ itā€™s about the frequency you get paid that fee. I suspect Richard Branson is giving very few paid speeches compared to the politicians.

Is there any argument that can be made that would change your mind about speaking fees?

My brother paid $300 to see Obama a few months ago. I paid $200 to see Michelle Obama last year. We were one of thousands who did so in the crowd.

You guys are not being internally consistent.

I brought up the Armstrong et all to show the general market place charges similar fees for the highest in demand speakers. Not just politicians. I bring up the Obamas to show the same.

So we have very high demand speakers being paid market rates by companies to give speeches.

Is there a desire by some of these companies it will gain them some access? Of course. But itā€™s just not the kind of straight up corruption itā€™s being made out to be.

These are the most famous people on earth being paid a lot for appearances.

Donā€™t conflate that with straight up regulatory capture which is corrupt as hell.

Again youā€™re muddying the waters. Getting 200-500 for a ticket to see someone from hundreds/thousands of people at an arena is a very different proposition than getting five/six figure sums from one entity that involves a lot of opportunity to gain access.

Look Iā€™m not one of these people who thinks everything the Obamaā€™s do is automatically holy. If they are giving six figure speeches to banks I think thatā€™s damning. Particularly since he started his time in office by continuing and completing their bailout.

This is something ugly thatā€™s been socially acceptable for much too long. I donā€™t care who it hurts it needs to stop immediately. Itā€™s legal graft pure and simple.

The Clintons arenā€™t as rich as they are because you and the general public fork over a few hundred to hear them speak. Goldman Sachs et al are why they are super rich and they couldnā€™t give two shits about what they said in their speech to their staff. Bur they do give two shits about access. Bored is right on this.

Obama didnā€™t bailout the banks because he was trying to make bank. He did it because of what Paulson and Bernanke deemed was right. Which probably wasnā€™t the best for actual people.

Being president is one of the most difficult jobs on earth. Can we agree? Yet itā€™s paid relatively poorly. I think $400k/year and they have to pay their own expenses from that.

If people are not allowed to make money after leaving office how does this system work? Are we not left with only rich people running for office?

Would we cap what they can make somehow? Limit the source? I donā€™t see how this is suppose to work.

ah cool TRUMP finally fired bolton, maybe the first good thing heā€™s ever done

now to take a big sip of tea and turn on my favorite yambag, Tucker

wtf is with img tags?

have any of the stalwart journalists out there who are keeping the president accountable bothered to ask him why he hired bolton in the first place?

Donā€™t need tags

My bad I didnā€™t realize they got expenses. Doesnā€™t change my point though.

Thatā€™s easy. Someone told him too. He doesnā€™t know anyone or anything about foreign affairs.

Holy crap the fascism is dripping in that video.

Letā€™s be super clear we need to pay high ranking government officials WAY more money. Because this ā€˜get paid when you quitā€™ bullshit has to end and itā€™s not reasonable to expect to hire talent without paying for it appropriately.

Being President should probably be 5M a year with a 1M a year pensionā€¦ and getting paying work after leaving office should be illegal.

Youā€™ve got this backwards, everyone else should get paid what they do.
