I’m going to use my one time on that warmongering walrus being the whistleblower. That’d be amazing.
White House and intelligence officials were working out a plan on Tuesday to release a redacted version of the whistle-blower complaint that helped ignite the impeachment drive against President Trump and to allow the whistle-blower to speak with congressional investigators, people briefed on the matter said.
The decision to release a transcript of the call made seeking a compromise on the whistle-blower easier, a person familiar with the matter said. But the information in the complaint goes beyond the material in the transcript, meaning there are still potential issues of White House executive privilege that need to be resolved, the person said.
A spokeswoman for the office of the director of national intelligence declined to comment.
I understand why the following has been completely buried under the news cycle, but I think it is important enough to be brought up.
I watched Trump’s UN speech and what really stood out to me was that at one point he was talking about the importance of religious freedom and about 5 minutes later he said “America believes that any child, born or unborn, is a gift from God.”
You can’t both say “Everybody is free to believe what they want” and “We are such a religious monolith that, when it comes to a theological issue, the nation, not the people in that nation but the nation itself, has a viewpoint”
Many of Trump’s most egregious statements have been when he was of the cuff, but this speech was (painfully) obviously scripted. This is a result of Republicans interpreting “religious freedom” as “you can get away with anything, as long as you are doing it because you are a christian”. This is a problem that will continue to exist long after Trump is gone and one of the reasons why the fight should not only be about getting him out of the White House.
Weak.
Yeah I mean the game here is pretty obvious, right? They will release a bullshit transcript of the call and a redacted version of the complaint in an attempt to mislead people, just like they did with the Barr letter in the Mueller probe.
I actually don’t think it’s going to work this time, though. Like I said a couple days ago, this story is easy to understand. It has legs. Whatever they release tomorrow isn’t going to change the main story of Trump ordering aid to be withheld and then pressuring Ukraine to investigate Biden. With the Barr letter, it gave people the false impression that the main story itself was something different than reality, i.e. Mueller found no collusion total witch hunt suck it libs. I don’t see how that can really happen here.
He won’t be removed from office, of course. It’s not a we-got-him. I don’t know, maybe I’m super naive, but this one feels like it will have some real impact.
Which witch hunt should the snitch witch hunt.
I think the Ukraine thing is like 5% of the story. If and when the whistleblower testifies openly, I expect jaw-dropping shit, even relative to our adjusted expectations.
onion
Unlikely, though. Right?
There are so many crimes out in the open already. He collects bribes from foreign leaders (and awval) who amazingly always choose his shitty hotel every time they’re in DC. The impeachment should be on him generally using the office for his personal benefit in every way imaginable, with Ukraine being just one example of that.
I guess Trump must think continuously tweeting about this is making things better for him? Usually the tweets come in clusters but it’s been a steady stream all day today.
Dems are now officially calling the committee investigations against Trump “impeachment investigations” rather than normal investigations. So, I think the only thing new is Pelosi is cool with using the word impeachment. There weren’t any votes taken.
