let me guess trump responds “I didn’t do it but if I did it’s perfectly acceptable and I HEAR JOE BIDENS MUSIC BIDEN BIDEN BIDEN BIDEN BIDEN”
so, we’re gonna have 20 senate/AG investigations into Joe Biden over the next year taking up the entire election cycle and the media will non stop talk about that regardless of who the dem candidate is.
I suspect they’re going to attempt to redact portions of the whistleblower report due to the subject matter being “classified,” and wouldn’t you know some of the really important parts were classified?
Meanwhile they’ll release the full transcript of a benign call and the GOP will rally around it.
Tomorrow could be a bad news cycle, but as long as the whistleblower is going to testify to the House Intel Committee, they should get the full story.
I don’t trust Moscow Mitch but this might be why he OK’d that resolution this afternoon. All the other crap they can cover and hide but he might know they are fucked in this case.
It’s definitely going to be (or whenever the call is released). All the 24/7 asshats are talking about is this call, which will assuredly be a nothingburger.
He might just view it as a meaningless freeroll that lets the Senate Republicans look responsible. If he thinks the report was going to come out anyway, he might as well get his caucus on the right side of it. If it’s nothing, he can be like “HA, got the Dems good!” but if it’s something, he can act all bipartisan and responsible about it - which gives him and his caucus more credibility to acquit later on.
If it’s somewhere in between, he still basically has all options open and more credibility.
White House and intelligence officials were working out a plan on Tuesday to release a redacted version of the whistle-blower complaint that helped ignite the impeachment drive against President Trump and to allow the whistle-blower to speak with congressional investigators, people briefed on the matter said.
The decision to release a transcript of the call made seeking a compromise on the whistle-blower easier, a person familiar with the matter said. But the information in the complaint goes beyond the material in the transcript, meaning there are still potential issues of White House executive privilege that need to be resolved, the person said.
A spokeswoman for the office of the director of national intelligence declined to comment.
I understand why the following has been completely buried under the news cycle, but I think it is important enough to be brought up.
I watched Trump’s UN speech and what really stood out to me was that at one point he was talking about the importance of religious freedom and about 5 minutes later he said “America believes that any child, born or unborn, is a gift from God.”
You can’t both say “Everybody is free to believe what they want” and “We are such a religious monolith that, when it comes to a theological issue, the nation, not the people in that nation but the nation itself, has a viewpoint”
Many of Trump’s most egregious statements have been when he was of the cuff, but this speech was (painfully) obviously scripted. This is a result of Republicans interpreting “religious freedom” as “you can get away with anything, as long as you are doing it because you are a christian”. This is a problem that will continue to exist long after Trump is gone and one of the reasons why the fight should not only be about getting him out of the White House.
