This feels like the kind of deeply held conviction that Republicans hold when they’re losing an election. When the are winning I seem to recall more “GET OVET IT LOSERS YOU LOST!” rhetoric.

No one has gone directly from Chief of Staff to running for president. Two former CoSs tried in 1988. Rumsfeld dropped out before the primaries while Haig gave up after New Hampshire.

I don’t mean directly. I expect Kamala to run and perhaps nominate him as VP (absurd wishful thinking lol), but my expectation is he will run again after Kamala’s cycle ends. Just curious whether a former CoS has at a later date used that position to leverage a nomination for POTUS. My uneducated perception is that CoS is the last stop before transitioning into a consultant career.
