I 100% believed the song was patriotic solely because the title phrase appears in the song and it is played at fireworks shows. The person subtweeting the tweet I linked educated me otherwise.

It’s kind of mind blowing they have told us Trump is on not one but like three experimental or extreme therapies.
Like, that is something that should be legitimately hidden from public knowledge. For strategic and diplomatic reasons which in this case we lol about because Trump is a drooling moron on a good day, but technically they are still valid.
And yet they basically led with that fact.

Partly Springsteen’s fault for making the chorus so anthemic imo. He’s supposed to be blue collar worker’s representative in song and it’s curious how he misjudged how it would be received by its target audience. Also, it’s just a fairly bad, corny tune and nowhere near one of his best.
