I don’t think so. Mainly they’re just done with Trump and doing this to make it seem like the party isn’t so deplorable. He will be gone in 10 days and the coup failed so there’s no reason to pretend to like Trump anymore.

However, he said people had started to use the new paths “because we’ve created an infrastructure where I normally never saw a border patrol for weeks at a time.”
“I’ve sat many, many, many hours in this area and never saw Border Patrol,” he said. “And now you see them all the time down at the Guadalupe Canyon ranch, because they have to be there.”
He described a Border Patrol officer telling him some weeks ago that there had been 50 crossings in a single week, in an area that previously had no more than a dozen a year.
The scale of the destruction has been astounding. Blast reports seen by Insider showed that workers were going through more than 2 tons of explosives in one part of the Peloncillo Mountains in a single day. A source said that workers use that much on most days.

Isn’t there a risk though that while they may be ready to distance from Trump, Trump’s voters are not? Will be sweet to see Mitch getting mercilessly harassed in restaurants and airports.

There might be a reason why they’ve been holding back on the some of the charges. I’m seeing a lot more stuff like unlawful entry than I am stuff like like armed insurrection and attempted kidnapping of a federal official.
Also, can we all agree that pardon powers need to be addressed and reformed?
If Mitch is serious about being on board with removal, it will be fascinating to see if he can get to 18 GOP votes. I see no way but would love to be surprised. Rob Portman had a mildly critical statement today, maybe the tide is turning.
