They’re doing the funeral procession of the slain officer right now FYI. Might have finally prompted it.

Democracy had a good run.

One of my high school classmates who up until recently had a Blue Lives Matter flag as a profile pic all of a sudden doesn’t want to hear about the news anymore.

I am not Facebook friends with this person; it was shared by a mutual friend.

I get that it’s off putting that they are just now stating this but hopefully they have hit rock bottom and are sincere as it is 110% correct and the way forward, Facebook and Twitter did this our country knowingly and intentionally.

Bowing to right wing politicians is only a part of the story. Their own internal research showed that 60% of the time that someone joined an extremist group,
Facebook/Twitter itself recommended it to them. Social media hacked our brains in a never ending quest to increase engagement.

I’ve heard YouTube is also pretty bad like that.

I feel like the wait 100 days to send the impeachment to the senate is a bad play. Why not just make all the cabinet picks acting and confirm them after the trial?

Has that been decided? I thought delaying the impeachment trial was just a suggestion.

I’ve taken the time to process how I feel about all of this. Taking off the analyst hat that I try to approach political events with, I’ve come to this conclusion.

I am angry. I am FUCKIN’ ANGRY.

Let me see if I can parse this in a satisfactory way. As a poker player, I have a great deal of self-control. I never react to bad beats to the point where I think it almost scares some players how unemotional I can be losing a giant pot all-in on the flop when two pair hits backdoor quads against top set. I don’t have any intention of going off in a violent rage because of this. A part of me might want to, but I have the capacity to hold back. I wouldn’t even consider it if I didn’t think it was a +EV move.

At the same time, other poker players show that they are obviously incapable of regulating themselves. If other people are as mad as me, some of them won’t be as in control of their emotions and actions as I am. They are a potential threat to do things in a violent rage. And such things may yet happen, especially if the lawful remedies such as impeachment aren’t carried out. I almost take it as a sign that we are completely fucked if no one is angry enough to take it that far because that means not enough people care.

I think enough people care and I think we are in for a rough next few years, if not decades. I’m going to have a great deal of sympathy for anyone on the left who acts out excessively. And I’m probably going to refuse to condemn them in anything other than weak terms. I might even do a little cheerleading. Some might call it trolling of right-wingers. I may have done that this weekend. Without going into details, let’s say that I had some live-action occasion recently to express contempt for the Coup Cucks Clan in a way that was meant as a dare to some people who I know voted for Trump. I was kind of disappointed that no one tried to disagree with me or defend Trump or had anything bad to say when I made the case that “Ashli with an ‘I’” deserved a Darwin Award.

Those on the right will seek do tone policing to feed a narrative of both sides. The proper pivot is to say that well maybe some outliers on the left shouldn’t have done whatever they did, but the important thing is that they were justified in their anger and the QAnon putschers were not.

We should not support a false peace that creates the semblance of unity. There are deep divides in this nation that can only be resolved by confronting them. We should eschew a non-confrontational approach.

You probably didn’t have a “I smuggle produce” flag on your antenna and “fuck your apple maggot quarantine” bumper stickers though.
