At this point the house must impeach. And then when it all comes out over the next year they need to hang no votes around on as many necks as possible. Sure there are safe R districts and Senate seats but for the rest…
Put the squeeze on them. Put them right between the D/I voters and the Trumpers and let them try and find a path.
*and maybe I’m turning into a nut but I firmly believe that a thorough investigation is going to take out a handful of Congress folks. The exposure of some of them to groups like the Proud Boys has to be huge.
Surprising no one thought of that at any time in the last 70 years…
But anyways, note that the obvious way to buck this trend is to pass voting rights legislation and DC/PR statehood. They’re popular, but it doesn’t even matter since they will create a permanent structural advantage.
Just to put a finer point on what I mean. I think inciting a riot is a much higher crime than rioting itself. I don’t mean to excuse anyone who entered the capital building. I agree they should pay a price. But I’m also empathetic enough to view many of these people as victims themselves. Victims of a cult. Victims of being spoon fed constant lies. Victims of having a low IQ. Not everyone can be a card carrying Mensa member genius who’s never committed an imperfect action in their life like most of the people I debate on here.
I attended several protests over the summer and it’s very easy to get caught up in the emotion. Had I been in the wrong place at the wrong time, I could see myself taking part in damaging a police station for example. A mob can take on a personality of its own. Or at least it’s very easy for people to lose their individuality
I think the question posed if the woman would’ve went along with harming the VP has a very different answer depending on if she’s acting on her own or within a mob.
