Yeah. There’s no reason to not come even harder next time, knowing there will be minimal to no legal repercussions. The only deterrent is that law enforcement (those on duty that day and not participating in the insurrection on their day off) will be better prepared.

They’ve been going to marches and rallies and demos for years with people wearing and chanting things like that and nothing much ever happened before. What was their intent (the looky-lous, not the guys with plasticuffs and so on)? They weren’t seriously thinking “Let’s overthrow the government, maybe wax a few elected representatives”, right? They were wandering in and taking a look around because it seemed like that’s what everyone was doing. Trespassing, in other words.
There’s no point regarding everyone who entered the Capitol as part of some homogenous mass with identical aims and intentions. We don’t have to throw our hands in the air and punish nobody just because we’re distinguishing between

Yeah, that’s true, but nothing you’re going to do is going to change the fact that the police, from beat cop to the people who decided how many beat cops should be guarding the capitol, are on their side. They may not have fully appreciated this themselves until now. Good lord the liberals don’t appreciate it. The lawbros aren’t going to change that after the fact.

It’ll look a lot worse for me if others get charged with seditious conspiracy but not Podium Guy. Breaking out that charge is a political question, right? That’s not a decision that will be made at the US Attorney level?
This is directly related to not punishing these people criminally and socially since the Civil War though. Appeasing these people made these views and efforts deemed acceptable. It then infiltrated the police like it did the rest of society. There is a reason the police in Canada or the Uk, while not perfect, are not as reprehensible as American cops.
I agree with Louis and others that distinguish between the dangerous maga crowd and the wine mom, qanon weirdo types.
