Agree. He can’t hide some facts from himself - blew a huge inheritance, bankruptcy, not academically bright etc - and the bluster is all cover to make him feel less of an abject failure.
Deep down he’s chronically insecure and has low self-esteem.
Unfortunately unlike with any normal person, none of this understanding helps anyone deal with him because he’s not some massively objectionable ■■■■ you share an office with but the POT fucking US.
Yeah, Trump unleashed is the version of Trump that tends to hurt him the most. It’s how we got “very fine people on both sides” which really did hurt his approval for a while.
I have mixed opinions on how the white house correspondents should handle Trump. On one hand I’d like to see them go more on the offensive like many of you are suggesting. The likely response is that he just shuts down and/or bans them and hands complete media access to Fox and OANN. It doesn’t stop his unhinged rants completely, but it definitely reduces the likelihood they make it through the filter. That may end up being a win for Trump.
The current system is essentially fighting to a draw, with the hope that Trump slips and falls and KOs himself. No one is really scoring any points through hits to the other side here. I don’t really think the Asian reporter trying to make it about race when Trump brought up China is really going to connect with anyone. As long as the media isn’t really punching back, Trump has no reason to stop the conferences or shut off access because they keep tiptoeing around him. Maybe this is the right play from the media in the long run. I really have no idea. It’s frustrating as hell to watch though.
I’m trying to figure out what to make of the fact that PredictIt has Trump with a 50% shot to win re-election in November. Maybe this is wishful thinking, but I cannot imagine how Trump has any chance of winning a vaguely fair election. We’re talking about a minimum of 100k dead from a pandemic that Trump blundered his way through on live TV on top of Great Depression-level economic chaos. Plus some probability of an entirely new grotesque scandal emerging from Trump’s warehouse of skeletons between now and then.
How much of this is me being wrong vs PI being wrong vs the prospects of some kind of election rigging?
I don’t know exactly what November is going to look like, but I do know that it will be the biggest shitshow of an election in modern US history. The amount of fuckery that goes on will be insane. It will make the 2020 Iowa Caucuses look like a well-oiled machine.
His support has a famously hard floor and Biden is a pretty unconvincing candidate. I’m fairly sure the pandemic has been good for Biden’s campaign, not because it makes Trump look bad, but because it allows Biden to limit the amount of time he spends appearing and talking in public.
Biden seems to be ahead in national polling at the moment, but I’d expect that lead to shrink and maybe disappear entirely if and when current undecideds get a good look at him.
