The Presidency of Donald J. Trump, Episode VII: We Are All Going To Die, Thanks Obama!

Honestly it sounds like a marketing campaign to condition people for a fascist takeover.

It seems exactly the sort of thing a malfunctioning animatronic Trump in a theme park might shout repeatedly whilst someone fiddles about trying to fix it. So about the level he is usually operating on.

Heā€™s just trying to distract from the current economic disaster so he doesnā€™t have to own it. He tried ā€œbut what about the great economy we had before COVID?!?!ā€ Now heā€™s trying ā€œbut what about how great the economy is going to be in the future?!?!ā€

When the 40% who are ā€œundecidedā€ pull the lever for Trump, this group will still be backing the latter.

I also think that it is known that complacency favors Trump. If people think the election is a lock theyā€™ll use that as an excuse to avoid casting a reluctant vote for Joe. In October I wouldnā€™t be surprised if there are some cynical Republican operatives that try to make it sound like the outcome of the election is a given.

The world is so unfair to poor Donny.

Someone is nervous about the Supreme Court today I guess.

The stress of Supreme Court dockets and Congressional hearings seems to calm this guy down.

Cool as a cucumber.

Iā€™m going to try to listen to oral arguments and live blog the tax case. There are really two separate cases:

  1. Congressional subpoena. Team Trump is arguing the subpoena is not valid because is is not tied to a valid legislative purpose. This is a new standard they made up; Congress has long been given very wide subpoena power. More importantly, there is an obvious, very legitimate legislative purpose, trying to figure out where the Presidentā€™s conflicts of interest are. Trump (represented by the Justice Department!) is going to scream ā€œno collusion,ā€ which for the millionth time is simply not true. Manafort, Stone, Flynn and Cohen. This is a slam dunk case in anything resembling an honest court.

  2. NY Subpoena. This one is an even stronger government case. The records are directly tied to the governmentā€™s investigation of the payoff shenanigans (which are campaign finance crimes) and, I think, the charity scams. Trumpā€™s argument here is TOTAL IMMUNITY FOR THE PRESIDENT, which is obviously false and without precedent, and hilariously hypocritical given Bill Clinton.

This tendency to feel like a victim despite running so well that if I was him Iā€™d believe in divine favor might be the thing that tilts me the absolute most about Donald Trump. The guy has never experienced anything resembling a significant stretch of running under expectation, and yet he thinks heā€™s getting screwed somehow.

Like even at the worst moment of his life when his entire ā€˜empireā€™ was collapsing around his ears he was luckboxing as hard as physically possible. The lenders decided he was worth more to them alive than dead. That decision by those bankers alone contains more run good than I, or most of the other posters here, have experienced in our entire lives.

I often wonder if, deep down, he knows heā€™s a dope. I honestly canā€™t tell. He never breaks character.

I think heā€™s ruled entirely by his subconscious insecurities. I think almost every action he takes is for the sole purpose of keeping those thoughts subconscious.
