I kind of think a lot of people who support Trump believe if they were successful and had access to the best medical care possible (American dream baby, they’ll get there one day even if you don’t), they’d be fine. But if a head of state dies…

He went legitimately personally broke in the 80s and the banks decided to loan him more money to keep him from defaulting!
He also took a giant shit all over the GOP in winning the presidency, only to have their absolute protection after committing dozens of blatantly impeachable offenses!

Other than the Novartis $$$ angle, I think the reason Trump is hyping “hydroxy…[pause] [looks up proudly]…chloroquine” is that he’s doing his usual no consequences for him freeroll.
Someone in the derposphere heard about the drug and that maybe, possibly, it had some positive effects in some cases somewhere. That eventually made its way to Trump. Now he’s going all-in on the drug because if it turns out it does amazing things, he will be the hero, the guy who knows everything. He has thrown just enough disclaimers out there, though, that if it isn’t a miracle drug, he can just say, “Look, I said maybe it will work. I told you to talk to your doctor. I didn’t say it definitely would work.”
