That’s a bit like paying 75% of the cost of something (3 years of Trump in the WH) and then not getting what you paid for (having his addled ass for an opponent in the 2020 general).
I know a lot of other people on this forum think that Trump is a tough candidate that might even be the favorite in the upcoming election, but I strongly disagree obviously. I think he’s a huge liability now, and will become a steadily bigger liability over time.
Remember that he’s spawned all this Ukraine stuff since July of this year. It’s been like five whole months. And he has absolutely no guard rails at this point. Yes on the one hand that’s terrifying, but he’s wildly incompetent so the chances that he can actually execute any of his evil bullshit seem to be going down steadily while his potential to cause game breaking problems for the GOP is increasing.
It doesn’t matter whether you think is a strong or weak candidate, what matters is is value over replacement. If you are not afraid of Trump, what realistic candidate do you fear more?
I agree their bench is pretty thin. I also think they can preserve most of the hardcore Trump peoples turnout by making a martyr out of him. They can claim, with some justification I think, that the impeachment caused his brain to explode if that’s what happens.
Obviously Mike Pence is not a good candidate, but I fear uncertainty here quite a bit. Trump is a very very bad candidate IMO. Prone to many more serious errors that are all capable of blowing the whole thing up than any actual politician.
Also do you really want to bet that Steve Bannon and his shadowy billionaire backers don’t have a decent backup waiting in the wings? I don’t.
Lol at bolded. If you have been paying attention for the last three years, you’ll know that there is literally no error that he could make that would blow it all up. Trumpkins can rationalize anything.
Just about the only think that would do it is the whole dead girl/live boy cliche. And I’m not even 100% sure about that.
Biden getting the nomination is almost guaranteeing a second term for Trump.
The people who win elections have energetic, motivated voters and supporters. Biden is like Clinton in that he won’t have that. He’ll be the guy who voted for mandatory minimums for drug offenses and sided with banks and shit like that.
Sanders will have that but the establishment Democratic figures would rather be leading a minority party than allowing others to lead a majority party.
In short, America is on its way to becoming Russia. A democracy where the minority parties exist just for show and voting is nothing more than a farce before it ceases to exist at all. It’ll be a country where the government robs the people with their full knowledge and jubilant consent while simultaneously maintaining their indefinite support.
Trump probably won’t live long enough to be that dictator but somebody will come along and be that. Whether it’s Don Jr., Eric, or Ivanka, somebody will take over the throne.
Right? If his approval was single digits and the Senate STILL refused to convict, we’d be having a different conversation vs 40℅ steady approval without conviction
The Democrats will win in 2020, but it will only be a single term (and if it’s Biden, I believe I read that he only intends to do one term).
Republicans will nominate someone who is as bad or worse of a person than Trump and who wants to implement all the terrible Republican shit. Problem is, he won’t be a mental defective who surrounds himself with criminals with no clue how to be criminals. They will have learned from their mistakes.
I get the impulse to laugh and make fun of this, but this is some very real and dangerous stuff. This is mental swirl spewing out of the dementia infested brain of the POTUS and commander in chief of the most powerful nation on earth should frighten the bejeesus out of everyone. I can almost forgive Trump because he’s a very sick man. But how fucking stupid does his cult followers have to be that lap this shit up completely oblivious to how abnormal and sick this man really is?
aide who’s secretly sabotaging him and writing op-eds and books about what a shithead he is: you’ll be speaking to students, so really show them how smart you are
