I’ll leave it to microbet for the history lesson, but antisemitism has very little to do with religion.
My understanding is it started with non-Jewish religions forbidding charging interest, which resulted in Jews being money lenders and went down hill from there. But it could just be because they are “the other” and people suck.
So, like racism in general is often simply making up reasons to blame the people who are different that you don’t like and greed and money are stereotypes that have been attached to Jews basically forever. But, go back at least to like early Christian times and stories about Jews as the money changers that Jesus expelled. Then in the middle ages Jews were forbidden to practice many/most trades, but Christians were forbidden to lend money in many places. Because of that the early banking industry and financers of the Aristrocracy were disproportionately Jewish in Europe. Many Kings had what they called “Court Jews” who were essentially their bankers. That’s in addition to just about every group of people that immigrates around countries tending towards being merchants because people don’t have to like you or live with you to buy or sell stuff with you.
So, for a couple thousand years, people who hate Jews, which means most everyone in Europe, and were taught stuff about money being the root of all evil, and that Jews (a very small percentage of Jews) were dealing with money, attached a stereotype of Jews loving money and meant it in like a very “we’re really thinking about killing all of you” kind of way. And Hitler was hardly the first or last person to think about it. Proudhon, one of the founders of Anarchism, could well be someone I’d read and quote (and sometimes do - he’s the main “property is theft” guy), but I’ve not read his books because he talked about exterminating Jews in the 19th century.
So if Ukrainians endorsing Hillary Clinton constitutes “election interference” in the minds of Republicans, then is it fair to say that Trump has interfered in foreign elections by endorsing Boris Johnson or Benjamin Netanyahu?
Wish a reporter would ask him if he thinks Jews run the world. You know he thinks it and you know half his pro Israel supporters think it.
Yeah this goes back before any of us or even him or America were born. He got taught that by his dad and a antisemitic society.
Is sort of that, but also that was one of the few trades Jews in Europe were even allowed to participate in. This is from like over 1000 years ago, antisemitism in Europe goes all the way back.
I don’t think this is 100% substantiated, but his Dad was probably a member of the KKK.
Obvious statement is obvious, but the line Republicans are taking is just so weird.
Read the transcript? Yes, we did. It’s pretty fucking damning. They are literally rocking the “don’t believe what you see with your own eyes” line.
An op-ed is “meddling” in an election? No reasonable person would ever think this.
Again, it’s all obvious things that have me aghast, but it’s all just scrambling my brain.
Read somewhere Martin Luther and his book The Jews & Their Lies had influence on Hitler.
Like you said the money thing goes way back.
“Sixth, I advise that usury be prohibited to them, and that all cash and treasure of silver and gold be taken from them and put aside for safekeeping. The reason for such a measure is that, as said above, they have no other means of earning a livelihood than usury, and by it they have stolen and robbed from us all they possess…”
Of course they laughed.
He was in a room full of rich dudes who paid to see Trump speak, and the joke was that they were rich selfish assholes who wouldn’t vote for higher taxes
Early indications have me salivating at how hard Trump will own himself over and over again about the report’s actual contents
Inb4 his supporters own themselves too
If you kick yourself in the nuts but everyone else is kicking themselves in the nuts too
