I suppose an unlikely positive takeaway from that is that we’ve been able to reverse things pretty quickly in the past. The disappointing takeaway is that we’re higher than we’ve ever been except WWII and we haven’t even started combating climate change yet…
I don’t want to make too much of it because I don’t want it to become the fiscal conservative bullshit of “muh deficits!”, but also hey let’s stop spending a bunch of money on the fucking military eh?
The framing of the issue is completely fucked. All we have to do is end the military industrial complex and the problem is solved. The idea that entitlement cuts are the only route to fiscal sanity is pure bullshit.

Trump said Tuesday that he has “total confidence” in Barr and conceded, “I do make his job harder.” He also asserted, though, that he, rather than his attorney general, is “the chief law enforcement officer of the country.”
“The attorney general is a man with great integrity,” Trump said. “I chose not to be involved. I’m allowed to be involved. I could be involved if I want to be.”
