Posted something long this morning about the thing in Iraq, but the embassy events happened as I wrote and didn’t have chance to find out about so deleted. Still don’t have time, but the short version is:
No real evidence this group was behind the original attack. They fight with the Iraqi army against ISIS and have done for years. The bombing was hundreds of miles away from the attack that killed a us contractor, and was an area already targeted by Israel as part of general anti Iran shit stirring. The embassy attack was the funeral cortege of people the US killed, and was a protest and not some terrorist attack - they burned stuff and were dispersed by tear gas.
This is horrible, escalatory nonsense by the US, and was not supported by the Iraqi government.
So, uh, how many investigations into the failings of the Trump administration to protect the Iraqi embassy is the Senate going to hold? How many harrumphs are there going to be about calling these people “protesters” instead of “terrorists?”
This is a golden opportunity for Dems to take an anti-war stance and ask Trump why he’s attacking Iran and going to the mat for Iraqis who clearly don’t want us there. Getting us out of Iraq was a key part of Trump’s pitch but ofc Dems are too incompetent and complicit to challenge him on it.
At least we get to watch Tulsi twist in the wind and stumble to find some way to defend Trump’s warmongering and blame Obama.
