Have to say it’s really weird seeing all these takes about how “this could be the thing”. It’s not. There is no thing. Imagine the worst thing you can dream of and it wouldn’t be the thing that would turn MAGAers.
The MAGA worldview is the definition of epistemic closure. The “deep state” allows instant discrediting of any inside information and the “fake news” means any report can easily, with no cognitive dissonance, be ignored. It is literally not possible for counter data to enter the worldview.
The combination of the deep state and fake news in the MAGA worldview means we all need to stop talking about “the thing” that will cause them to turn. It axiomatically cannot exist.
This war cannot be won by more news, more logic and more insider tell alls.

I totally agree with this. Even when deplorables say out loud “these terrible comments from Trump are absolutely disqualifying!” their brains will immediately follow that with “but of course I have to vote for him anyway to keep the Socislists from taking over, they’re even worse!” Over the top performative support for The Troops is a form of conservative virtue signaling.
Even if it doesn’t change a single vote it’s still good this came out because it’s 3 more days (at least) that Trump is on defense while down 7-10 points in the polls. Also it solidifies Biden support, which remains consistently at or above 50%.
I think there are more voters on the margins than most think ITT. I think the simple fact that polling went from a flip to Biden up 10+ points because of Covid shows there are people who aren’t the loyalist base willing to die for dear leader. Like yeah all the ones who post on social media, or defend him to friends/family are a lost cause. But there are definitely voters out there that will leave if he fucks up an issue important enough to them. I think his real absolute bottom is probably another 5-10%
I think hammering this in the media is good because like Riverman said it keeps them on the defensive, plus it probably is an issue for a certain amount that could keep them home. Especially if that coward Kelly came out and confirmed it.
Another I think is the market, if the market tanks I think you will see him lose even more support.
Like if every 5-7 days another fresh revelation of Trump scumbaggery, inhumanity, sociopathy, etc. comes out, the GOP will never be able to make the case Joe is old, get the media to focus on whatever bullshit Barr and Ron Johnson have coming, focus on Hunter Biden being a crackhead, etc. It is also entirely plausible there are another 5+ bombshells to drop, the guy is just that bad.
It will get the media asking why, and then he can launch into reminding/telling people about all the other shitty, corrupt things he had done to diminish the office and our country. Start with the tax returns, he promised he’d released them when elected, he didn’t, and continues to fight their release, etc just keep hammering that shit home
I think this just gives Biden more ammunition to use against Trump in a debate. BIden could just ask Trump to share his thoughts about Generals Kelly and Mattis for starters. Or if he really wanted a North Korea style parade with real Americans marching like mechanical toy soldiers.
I dunno, The debates are pointless from a substantive perspective, they’re just more media. I think it creates more scandal to refuse to debate. The media eats that shit up, they are going to want to know why, then they are going to want Trump to respond. It puts him on the defensive and controls the narrative. Fuck the debates, Trump is going to turn it into a circus anyway, so do it on your own terms and in a way that is justified
I think the momentum is shifting back to Biden, though who knows where it will be when the debates come. I just think there are many ways to get Trump back on his heels, and even Joe can put him on the defensive. I’d agree they’re mainly a tv show. I think most people have made up their minds.
The issue is getting people to vote. Honestly I wish the Dems would push for in-person “early” voting or dropping off mail-in ballots rather than mailing them. I think this post office meltdown is going to be pretty real.
