The actually interesting part of the story isn’t Trump its the complete failure of institutions to prevent him from seizing control of the country. No useful insights will be derived from examining Trumps behavior, people need to be watching the failure of technocrats and journalists to understand how to prevent this in the future. The alleged adults in the room take so much for granted and don’t know what to do when challenged in even the slightest way. Its embarrassing.

Man, some of y’all have ridiculous standards for how people should be able to react to shit in the moment and deliver some perfect, Aaron Sorken esque response. It was in the middle of a rally, he had a million other things he was probably focused on, and he’s an old, guy with serious ingrained prejudice. He responded fine. The import of what that woman was saying was that Obama was a bad person, McCain correctly recognized and defended him in a situation where there was an immense amount of pressure, like a literal mob, to agree with her or at the very least let it slide. He did the right thing in defending Obama, and he should get all the credit for that. Y’all really need to learn the value in giving people space to be slightly wrong when they are trying to do the right thing. Jesus fucking Christ.

If they had him on tape or video saying everything it would matter zero. The right wing infrastructure has been predicting the Dems use deep fakes for years so their cult members are already prepared to believe nothing regardless of proof. This whole early vaccine play is so bad for the world. It is high octane gasoline for the anti-science crowd. The implications for the inevitable bungled and politicized rollout will be catastrophic. It will have a centuries long impact on wide ranging public policy, from health to climate change to social science.
Of all the bad things Trump has done it is by far the worst.

I’m going to go against the grain and say this MIGHT matter. Of course it wont do anything do dissuade his cult base of deplorables, but that’s not the point. He’s already losing by 7-10 points, he needs to massively outperform 2016 among no college whites due to shifting demographics. These people could give a fuck about grab em by the pussy but lots of them served or have family who did. If some percentage of these people stay home it is a big win.

There is something weirdly satisfying when Trump just blurts out something correct that you’re not allowed to say out loud because the country is so broken.
Of course he’s right about all our stupid wars, kind of like how he blurted out “just have medicare cover everyone.” These things are obvious even to a demented, idiotic, mush-brained drug addict but this country is so far gone they’re considered extreme / uncouth.
