Man. I’ve been about 3 or 4 days behind in the Trump thread. I’m not a man of great willpower, but I was painstakingly reading every post to ensure I don’t miss a single word of the political insight I’ve come to expect from UP. Every tweet post. Every anecdote about near misses running over deer. I knew RBG died yet I stayed the course. I knew about the NYT tax dump and didn’t lose focus. I knew he was exposed last night when I went to bed, and even caught up on some of the takes on the taxes before putting my phone down for the night. I woke up this morning and saw the news, and it broke me. I immediately skipped ahead to October 2nd in the thread. I tried UP, I really tried . I apologize in advance for all the routine riverman posts I didn’t get to add the 20th like to, or the actual phenomenal posts with only a couple likes that deserve more, but I don’t bother to click on.

I believe people of multiple faiths give structure to society by attempting to live with pattern. The control group if you will.

Yes, if he was around someone infected. I guess most days he has several face to faces, I don’t know.
Its a shame. Hes a genuinely funny guy who seems to be about 90%+ on our side.
His Fox show is also fucking brilliant, but of course, Fox in the late 90s/early aughts had no idea how to market succesfull shows

This is the best take so far but I think wishing his personal health is fine. I’m really not understanding the downside to doing so. If we are talking potential votes, what undecided is going to be turned off by empathy? Way more likely to lose votes by doing the opposite imo.

I agree with this. Especially with Biden, one of his strengths is radiating empathy. He could easily thread the needle with a perfunctory acknowledgement that he hopes Donnie Dumb Dumb doesn’t die, but then pivot right into how this is a tragedy at a personal level for so many American families and Americans deserve a leader that understands that, etc etc.

So much this. I would also add some focus on national security. We look weak as fuck right now. Empathizing for Trump (obviously very minimum but sincere) and transitioning that into a message of national unity at this historic time we are in.
I don’t believe anything the Florida Man administration says. I don’t see the angle and don’t see how faking this would help him, but if there’s anything I’ve learned in the last four years it’s that things often don’t work the way I think they should. So I’m disbelieving this until proven otherwise.

I’m just picturing how Trump is reacting to the fact that literally everyone (except Melania) that he sees in the coming days and weeks will be dressed in haz-mat gear out of fear that he could kill them. Meantime, I’m not sure I understand why not moving them, but instead, turning the White House into a covid ward is a good idea.
2016 Trump voters who need a path out. Pride is a thing. Ex military boomers who want to have pride in their country. Some of these people saw the debate, they saw how Trump acted and it wasn’t the filtered Fox message. A hole has been poked in the dissonance.
