If he ends up with a mild case it’s going to get a lot worse. We’ll never hear the end of the .06% death rate figure. It has the chance to let these people did their heels in even more.
Guy on CNN now is saying it’s believed Wilson had the 1918 flu and recovered but three weeks later had his stroke. Strongly suspect the flu plus history of high BP did him in.
So given what he know about Covid we get the perfect outcome.
When Thatcher survived the IRA hotel bomb in the 80s she emerged with her standing greatly enhanced among the electorate. Even some Labour voters admired her resilience.
I think the fact that the White House is admitting he has “mild symptoms” is significant. I mean, when I get a cold, the symptoms are more mild in the beginning than they are later. If he starts going into Boris Johnson mode…shit’s gonna get wild.
I’m coming around to the conclusion that as long as Trump survives, it’s (somehow) not a big deal for the election. I don’t think he gets many sympathy votes, and it’s a big exclamation point on his grotesque incompetence. On the plus side, it makes it a little harder for them to plot a coup if he’s in the ER.
If Trump dies before Election Day, I worry a bit. The best guard against a stolen election is having everything be cut-and-dried, so ending up in a wild law school hypo about presidential succession and election law would be a disaster.
That won’t matter to his supporters when he declares “Look, I’ve told you all along it was no big deal” even if he’d been close to death, and some who’ve drifted away from him might be persuaded back.
how close did biden and trump actually get? not very, it seems, and I doubt anyone from their campaigns directly interacted. Biden getting it and dying before November 3rd is definitely possible, but I don’t think this has appreciably increased those odds.
They were maybe 10-12 feet apart and trump was yelling straight at him for 90 minutes. He also had a crew of likely infected people sitting in the audience without masks who could have been spreading to Biden’s team in the audience.
On the other hand, you have to think they ensured the ventilation on stage was good, and there’s a good chance Trump wasn’t shedding a ton of virus particles at that point.
Idk, it’s all guesswork but I think this is certainly something Biden should be concerned about.
If I’m Biden, I’m still a bit scared. I’m sure they were more than 6’ apart, but I don’t think there is anything magical about that distance. Risk goes down at greater distance but probably goes up when someone is shouting at you. On TV they didn’t look more than 10 ft apart.
Pretty sure it refers to or is at least related to the number of qRT-PCR cycles necessary to get a detectable signal. Fewer cycles = more virus present. It’s an intuitive number from the point of view of someone designing or running the test.
