Trump’s going to spend more time watching people make fun of Biden for doing debate prep than actually doing any himself.
I follow one person. It’s my girlfriend. Unfortunately this means Instagram just keeps on giving me push notifications about her posts. I got one this morning “xxx has posted from Ubirr, Kakadu National Park”. The post is from like 4 weeks ago.

Watched last week tonight about Supreme Court, also talked about structural advantages in senate and electoral college for gop and such and such, all things we have covered here, super despressing
It’s crazy. I doubted Donnie Default wanted Ivanka as his running mate when I first saw it reported. But now that he is denying it I fully believe it. If Trump said the sky was blue I would be convinced I woke up in California.
Trump also won initial approval to renovate the Rossiya Hotel in Moscow in a deal that would have been worth about $800 million, according to Fortune. But in 1998 the Rossiya’s general director Yevgeny Tsimbalistov was murdered in a mafia contract killing; Trump later put the hotel projects on the “back-burner,” his assistant Norma Foerderer said at the time
On Pompeo.
Not really my jam, but maybe eye-opening to some semi-deplorables on FB.

I just watched The Social Dilemma and holy shit are we fucked. It is terrifying. It’s like 90 minutes of stuff I mostly knew to some degree but experts who created a lot of it explain just how fucked we are and just how severe it is.
I’m putting it here because, essentially, there’s a strong case to be made that social media is causing the rise of extremism and polarization, and that authoritarians are using it to rise to power. I think we know enough to know it’s a huge part of how Trump took power.
All of these social media companies use algorithms that maximize engagement at any cost, and the cost is often promoting conspiracy theories. It’s the reason why more people believe crazier shit than ever before, including the president.
This probably deserves its own thread but the documentary makes me wonder just how much I’ve been radicalized by social media, just how much propaganda I’ve been fed, and just how much of what I believe is 100% true might not be. Having a journalism background and assessing most information critically, I doubt I’ve fallen for too much, but I’ve almost certainly had my views and outrage cranked to 11.
At some point, though, that’s an appropriate response to what’s going on across the aisle. So it’s tough to say how much is amplification.
As we navigate the closing days of the election and hopefully the final days of Trump, it’s important to remember that outrage is like a drug, and we’re going to be force fed it by social media. This is not good for us.
Also we should seriously consider getting rid of likes. I know they make a lot of sense because they prevent some piling on, but we’re creating dopamine feedback loops that are not good for us.
Dude it’s 4;30, go to bed
Yeah Cuse you aren’t even radical lol. On the global scale you’re relatively moderate. I’d say/hope this place has WAY more influence on our political views than social media, if not you’re doing it wrong.
The radicalization isn’t really a problem for the left because they’re the ones who believe in sciences, facts etc. Like there are some nutty lefties but they were always nutters even before social media.
It’s the people who don’t believe in science, facts etc that are getting manipulated through emotions on social media.
Left/right yes, in terms of activism I’m pretty far toward an extreme which I think is a good extreme. In terms of emotion, especially anger, I’m also toward an extreme that is debatable in terms of being good.
Yes of course, but we have Twitter integrated and most of us get news stories from various forms of social media and algorithms. We have likes and notifications and little shots of dopamine.
I largely agree with this and I also think growing income inequality is driving increased polarization on both sides.
Should be $750
I can’t get over the Mueller investigation.
Trump says “you can’t look into my finances” and Bob Mueller says “OK.”
I don’t even.
