Again, this is why Biden should not share a stage with this dumb piece of shit. It’s just giving him another platform to spew lies and misinformation and Biden coming up with some earnest talking point or whatever is not going to undo the harm that Trump has done and will continue to do when you keep giving him this kind of platform.

Honestly none of the trumpers I know watch any of his shit live, they get it filtered for them by right wing media/social media where they follow trumpers and they mostly hear the stuff they want to hear.
And a huge part of them liking him is us freaking out about the crazy shit he says. Like even if they know its stupid, they know its wrong, or they know its a lie, they love it because liberal tears. I really wonder what would happen to his support if the left as a whole, especially on social media, had chosen to do a media blackout and completely ignore him and focus on policy. Thats not really possible because the shit he says and lies he spews do need to be addressed for the ones who do listen to him, but I feel like his support would drop by like 20% if they didn’t have a constant feed of us freaking out about how bad he is.

I generally agree, but to be fair most liberals also don’t watch live and see a filtered version. Obviously I’m not equating the two, but most sensible coverage of a Trump event still takes the form of extracting the most sensational things he says and writing articles about that. The bigger picture story gets lost everytime.

If Biden debates Trump his best play is to turn it into a mud flinging contest, by attacking Trump with his own words and bully him into submission…
Start off with coming out with the sleeves rolled up, the 1st words should be actual fighting words, tell him Obama would have kicked his ass and that’s why he’s scared of Obama and has tried to dismantle everything they done together and how he’s came back to put it all back, tell the scared bunker boy that they’ll never be a security fence round the White House and how a Black man never needed a fence round his white house ever, if Trump was so so strong he’d get rid of the fence tomorrow and allow visitors, etc.
Then onto more CornPop stories of how he’s the man to put this bully on his ass and straight up tell the audience, don’t worry on Nov I’m kicking his ass, and on January I’m coming in to throw all the Family out including his in-law wee Jared and will have them searched for goods belonging to the WH as we all know there just common thief’s, etc etc etc… Fuck the questions and swearing may also help.
Just do what we all want to do, shout and swear in his face for 30 mins too.
And everytime he tries to open his mouth, shout over him with “What a fucking baby” Infact calling him baby all night would probably be better than a few choice swear words.

Right, which is another reason why I think Biden declining to debate is the right play. Biden can more effectively control the narrative, Trump is a corrupt failure who has no ideas worth debating. Sure he will say Biden is scared or w/e but the media will not be able to resist the unprecedented narrative that Trump isn’t worthy of debating.
This would be amazing but Biden is gunning for the " return to normalcy/ president being presidential " so no way he will do it. I agree he should, thats what everyone wants, but we will all be disappointed as he compliments Trump and and treats him like a sane reasonable person who just isn’t the right man for the job

We always have to remember that many voters barely follow politics and when they watch Presidential debates they will be getting meaningful exposure for the first time. Biden going with full on uncivilized attack will just play into the complacency/ both-sides-are-bad attitudes that hurt Democrats. He should more or less ignore and belittle Trump by dismissing him (“There you go again”) and kind of laughing at him, then FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SPEAK DIRECTLYTO VOTERS ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL DO TO HELP THEM. Biden should absolutely pound policy, particularly to activate young people he needs to turn out.
The problem is he has no actual policy that appeals to them. I haven’t heard anything about student loan relief. He doesn’t support the green new deal. His pitch is “I’ll be nice to Republicans (the same ones I’m simultaneously telling you are evil and threaten democracy) and make them agree to centrist solutions.”

Sorry, I’m not saying that they are totally untouched by politics. What I mean is that anyone that is actually persuadable in any way (who may or may not vote, who may vote R or may vote D) is probably just watching the chaos stream by in their peripheral vision while they are trying to deal with daily matters. They’re not spending a couple of hours per day on a politics forum. When they are nudged by an event like a Presidential debate to pay closer attention they are still somewhat impressionable. I have numerous friends and coworkers in the US who know the general contours of the election (Trump is a bad person , Biden is the alternative) but even as recently as a couple of months ago when I said stuff like Trump is attempting to suppress votes and Trump is going to contest an election loss, they assured me that is crazy talk. Its starting to seep through now and for a lot of people Biden is going to get one shot to convince them he will actually help them if he wins. There is a lot of complacency and people justifiably feel like the government is leaving them to solve all their problems on their own. If Biden tries to coast on poll results he might be very disappointed in November.

Yeah very much this. But he should just pick a couple of things and hammer them home.
Say that he gave HC to millions of Americans when he worked with Obama and he’ll push to help even more people.
Say that he believes climate change is real. Don’t debate on policy. Just keep saying “I believe climate change is real and the government needs to be part of the solution. My opponent thinks climate change is fake. If you care about climate change I’m your man”.
I am not that good at this stuff but I do know that value propositions and technical specs are different things. And Apple doesn’t sell a lot of iPhones by posting technical spec sheets on billboards.

I follow politics religiously and this is the first I’m hearing of it.
Conversely, I’ve seen a never ending stream of media about how nice of a guy he is.
Look, I get it, this is legitimately hard which is why smart people disagree about it. And there is a big difference between “should Joe Biden embrace more liberal policies” and “should Joe Biden talk about more liberal policies.” Because I think the first one is an obvious “yes,” but the second one isn’t.
It is intuitive that Joe going out and talking about liberal policies will generate a backlash. Some of the people he really needs in swing states are old white morons who hate socialism or whatever. But what the left still seems to not understand is that LITERALLY ANYTHING YOU PROPOSE WILL BE FRAMED AS COMMUNISM BY YOUR OPPONENTS. So you may as well get credit for promising people actual shit that will help them.*
*And it has to be understood in 5 words or less. “Cancel student debt.” “Medicare for All.” “Tax the rich.” These are slam dunks. You say the words “tax credit” or “market based solutions” or whatever and there is no point in trying.
