It’s so frustrating. They become addicted to secret knowledge very few others are aware of. So as soon as something starts to gain any kind of consensus outside of their conspiracy bubble–they abandon it. That can’t possibly be the truth because The Truth would only be the sort of thing few others have noticed.
More than that, I think they’re addicted less to discovering truth and more to being a Champion of Truth. To snapping people in the face with hard facts and hard questions. Offending a person suddenly becomes an elite strategy designed to rile people up enough for them to be so mad they take that first step into blind loyalty to whatever makes them feel better.

I think a huge part of the problem is that no one is speaking to the real issues that psychologically underpin all this stuff. Poor children are dying every day to prolong the life of the super wealthy. Ordinary people are being ripped to pieces (metaphorically and sometimes literally) to feed the machine that sustains the powerful. Look at sheldon aldelson and tell me he isn’t drinking children’s blood. Would it surprise you at all if it turned he was? People have (rightfully) lost all trust in the institutions of society and they’re trying to build a worldview out of feels, and shit feels pretty damn satanic right now.
