The Pets of Unstuck

Yeah I’m gonna try some treatments like CBD and glucosamine. I don’t think they’ll make her less of a curmudgeon but they may help the physical element.

The other day Keanu managed to push open the screen door and took off. By the time I got to the front door, he was nowhere to be seen. I was pretty worried since he’s been indoors the whole time and I live just off a busy street. I kept an eye out for him and I thought I’d heard him meow a couple of times (his meow is lower in pitch than Ivy’s), but when I looked out the door, he wasn’t there.

So one day I’m in the kitchen and I hear a meow and it’s a little louder, like it’s coming from the basement. I open the door and there he is. Turns out I had a hole in the soffit under a part of the house that extends past the foundation. I’m guessing he got back in the day after he got out and was stuck in the basement for a couple of days.

Really glad he’s back.

Keanu is finally letting me pet him. He’ll walk close when I pull out the treats and I’ll scratch his back.

sasquatch errr squirrel!

Cats have been known to disappear for a couple of days, only to show up inside.

Dude was like, fuck this outdoors shit is for the birds. What the hell was I thinking?

First two cats I had

  1. Indoor cat since kitten. Snuck out every chance he got. Would come back home all scratched up.

  2. Cat that was found wandering the streets. Could open the patio door in front of him. Maybe of couple of times took a couple of steps and then laid in the sun. But he was not going anywhere. He’d found nirvana.

I had one that would disappear for weeks at a time and we wouldn’t worry until it had been close to a month. So finally he’s gone for over three weeks and we start looking for him, kept calling animal control every day and they’d tell us no black cats had been captured but we were free to come out and take a look. After a week we finally went out to animal control for one last look and literally took him off the truck that was leaving in 5 minutes to take him to the gas chamber. ACAB.

I heard a woman screaming. Looked out my window and saw my neighbor running to help this lady who was down on her knees. I thought she got hit by a car because this street is a nightmare to cross. But it was her dog that got hit. Neighbor picked it up and out of the street. Fuck. Feel like shit.

Sorry you had to see that. I watched the same scene unfold 25 years ago and reliving it still hurts.

Thanks. I only saw the aftermath. She just sat there in the grass with her dog for a long time, stroking it. Another neighbor brought her a blanket to cover the dog. There were a few people around at first but I don’t think the car that hit the dog stopped. Some people suck. A friend or maybe a stranger who was there with her gave her a ride after a while. I saw her carry the dog away, still very distraught. Ugh.

My partner and I moved in together over the weekend and are now trying to introduce our cats. Gonzo and I are quarantined in my office. He spent most of the morning in his carrier but seems to be getting curious …

It’s adolescent coyote season. They’re curious and stupid, which makes them a concern - they’re not as careful as the older wiser (wiley-er) coyotes.

I can’t find it but there was a social media post years ago of an obvious coyote in a bathtub and a caption like, “we found this poor pup abandoned on the street so we took her in. Does anyone know what breed she is? She’s VERY frisky”
