Makes me wonder if Shibas have gotten more popular since the creation of the doge meme. I kind of remember reading they’re supposed to be kind of willful and high-strung–what’s your experience Mr. Def?
Shiba Inus seem to be super trendy here in Prague, probably having more to do with the fact that they are clean, Japanese apartment-friendly dogs than the meme, but I dunno.
I think you’re right, generally, though.
Our pup is super stubborn, though I’m not a dog-guy historically, so I don’t have much to compare him to. He’s been amazing so far, but we’re cutting him a lot of slack since he’s a puppy, so I can see him being a “willful” pain in the ass in the near future.
We’re committed to loving him no matter what, though. We’re saps.
Of course! I’m sure you and the pup will do great!
I love that breed. What a cutie!
Training going well?
Yes, I think so…
We got pretty “lucky,” actually, that the COVID-inspired shelter-in-place or whatever you call it has been extended for so long here. We’ve been three excited humans trapped with a new dog for more than 6 weeks now. Ironically (paradoxically?), we would have been struggling if things had went back to normal like we’ve been desparately hoping for.
He’s a pain on a walks still, and he bites us a wee bit too much, but other than that he’s been pretty amazing. A smart boy and a good boy. Fingers crossed it continues!
I have purchased 3 beds for my last two dogs and they never fucking use them. Here’s the closest she’s been to one of her beds.
Have you tried lying on them and cuddling her to get her used to them? Oh and put an old shirt that smells like you on there.
Oh yeah. She lays down and right as soon as she thinks you are done caring about what she is doing she’s off it and just sleeping up against the wall lmao. She won’t lay on the bed with me either. She tries to lick hands and my arms or skin exposed and once that’s done she’s off the bed. She will sleep on my bed though when I’m gone but never when I’m here. She’s a weirdo.
@tilted When I got this dog she had a bunch of tics on her and got lyme disease within a week of me rescuing her. She was paralyzed for like 2-3 days while the antibiotics kicked in and I had to carry her outside to pee while her whole body was locked up. She had seizures pretty regularly for the first 4-5 years of her life and I suspect it is from the Lyme. Seizures are horrible. That sucks. She’s gotten better and not had any for a few years unless I wasn’t home when she had one but I suspect now that she’s getting old I will see them again soon. Seizures are the worst.
She looks proud of just existing. lmao. That aussie is a weird resemblence to Chloe.
Glad to hear she is better! Toaster has had seizures since he was like 2. I’ll never forget the first one. I thought he was dying. They have been happening ever since, so we are used to them, but they are still painful to watch.
They are so bad. One night she was in and out of seizures for like 4-5 hours and I had come home from the bar via Uber so couldn’t have driven her anywhere anyway. By then I knew that you just have to wait them out and comfort them but it’s just horrible. It is weird that they went away but I’m not complaining at all.
The vet said we could put her on meds but everything I read says they gain weight and get lethargic and shit from that epilepsy medicine so I held off. Glad I did I guess. If she had kept having them like that bad night though I don’t know. Glad I don’t have kids to have to make these decisions for lmao.
Wow. Ours only last 4-6 minutes. We also never pit him on medicine for the exact same reason can’t imagine hours of it.
I sat beside the bed with her until the sunrise and she was in and of grand mal seizures. It was so bad. she always knows when she is about to have one too and comes running to me before it hits. Then her back legs stop working and then her whole body locks up and she just drools. Once she starts panting again I know she’s out of it. I just hold her for comfort.
Dude. I 100% know what you mean. As soon as toaster starts breathing out of his mouth I know it’s over. The similarities across breeds are crazy.
Off topic: my brother put his 17 year old lab down today. He reached the point of no return, but 17 years of being treated like a son is the best life a dog can ask for.
Jakes low blood protein is confirmed in remission. Lowering the steroid dose. Coming off of plavix. Put back on most of the weight he had lost. He has really responded well to the treatment.
Jake is the IG, Poppy in her sweater. Don’t get too distracted by my naked knee.
Did your dog pee a dog-shaped patch in the snow?
