The NHL Thread: It’s Back

So you’re saying they’re clutch?

Patrick Roy named head coach of the Islanders. :astonished:

Woah, has he been assistanting anywhere?

He coached the Quebec Remparts forever up until this year. He must have decided he wanted another crack at coaching in the NHL.

He had 1 good year in Colorado, then a couple mehs

Patty’s last game. I seriously thought about putting a catheter in to watch this game. 10 minutes in and Patty’s NHL career was over and I’m laughing on the floor.

Well, that’s embarrassing.

You know what’s a good powerplay? 30%? 50%? No, higher! 100%!? HIGHER!

edit—Yeah, I should go back to work.
PP% <> shooting% on the powerplay

Pretty big news in the hockey world.

The prospective charges are related to an alleged sexual assault in June 2018 involving players from the 2018 team and a woman

London Police announced later in the day that they expect to hold a media availability on Feb. 5 to provide updates. “We understand that there is significant public interest in relation to a sexual assault investigation dating back to 2018,” London Police released in a statement on Wednesday afternoon. "While we are unable to provide an update at this time, we anticipate that the London Police Service will hold a press conference on Monday, February 5, 2024 to share further details.

Sounds like they have a couple of weeks to turn themselves in and then they’ll be charged.

ESPN goes as far as basically saying who the players are.

Michael McLeod and Cal Foote of the New Jersey Devils, Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers, Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames and former NHL player Alex Formenton, who is now playing in Europe, all have been granted indefinite leave, with the absences announced in the past four days.

The Flames announced Monday that Dubé’s leave was for mental health reasons.

Seems like these people can never not be shitty.

In my opinion it should have just been a single clear statement by the NHL instead of having announcements from each team and a whole lot of speculation but maybe there is some reason they couldn’t do that.

At least the other teams statements were decent.

The Flames released a statement.

We have now become aware of the charge of sexual assault that has been laid against Dillon Dube. We take this matter very seriously. Because the matter is now pending legal proceedings, we will have no further comment at this time.

We had no knowledge of pending charges at the time Dillon’s request for a leave of absence was granted.

That doesnt sound good.

Its a blue collar town, they had next to no corporate seats and have raised prices every year. Downtown isnt a blast and I cant go to a game with the wife for under $150 before food/drinks.

This is the first time in a while theyve had a pretty good team right? Fans lag teams that start winning. They win a series or two and those numbers will pick up next year.

According to the article, many season tickets in the past were bought by friends/family as a syndicate, and then as people dropped out due to life experiences, COVID, etc., it led many of these groups to collapse.

They’ve lost a team before. I don’t know the city population but expect it’s on the small side.

They had a ton of young talent a few years ago but it never jelled.

Its just about $ not team quality.

My parents had season tickets for 10 years until this year. Was great going for a while. Always full. Last year their row was otherwise empty every time I went.

As said, there are basically no corporate tickets so a lot of the season tickets were 6-12+ people splitting. Rising cost of living gets 1-2+ people to drop from a group, then rest cant afford.
