I’m pretty confident the data analytics guys understand it, but would not be surprised if the coaches are pure level 1. “going for it on 4th down is good therefore I should try to gain enough on 3rd so that I can go for it on 4th” feels like the exact logic these coaches would use. Fat Mike would love it, he can put it right alongside “we have more rushing attempts when we win therefore running is the key to winning” in his book of dumb rules of thumb.
It’s light but whatever. Presumably he could still face lawsuits or prosecution from the many incidents, and/or further punishment if more women were to come forward?
I just hope he just shits the bed and Cleveland is stuck in 9-8 purgatory for the next 5 years.
What’s shitty is how the Browns backloaded the money knowing that something like this would probably happen. Honestly, I would’ve wanted the Browns to be punished for such a scummy move but tis not meant to be.
Anyway, guess Jacoby Brissett is the starter. Gonna be fun to watch the Browns fail for the first 11 weeks of the season.
So it looks like Watson is gonna go nearly two full calendar years between real NFL games. What kind of data do we have for guys missing that much time and how they perform coming back from it? I realize this isn’t injury related so it’s different, but what are the odds he’s just not the same player when he returns?
Best data would probably be looking at guys that went to war and then returned. Not sure there are many NFL players - but quite a few MLB guys that went to WWII and Korea for a few years.
The most famous examples are Ted Williams (WWII) and Willie Mays (Korea) both to win the MVP in first season back. I’m sure some came back and struggled, but don’t recall any instances where a young star player went to war and wasn’t able to return to being a good player.
While there are players like Plaxico Burress who were suspended for two years and came back, my guess is that most of the players who were productive after missing multiple years in the NFL are going to be older players like Rocky Bleier who were drafted and went off to war for a few seasons.
The closest modern comparison is Michael Vick who missed 2 years and then was a backup for a 3rd before playing some of his best football. He wasn’t the ankle breaking dynamic runner he was before but he was a pretty solid QB after not really playing in any NFL games for 3 years.
Is there a human being on planet earth who saw him get a 1 year + 6 game suspension and was outraged, who now sees 1 year + 11 games and thinks “ok, that seems fair I am satisfied justice has been served”?
