Before the draft if you had told me that of Rosen and Allen one would be a top three quarterback and the other would be on his way out of the league I would have lost a lot of money betting the wrong way
I don’t know if I would lose that bet. Like, I didn’t believe in Allen, but I really, really didn’t believe in Rosen. Rosen never beat Stanford in his career, and he never looked all that impressive in his losses. It’s not like he was putting up 35+ on offense while his defense let him down. I can’t honestly say how I’d bet that now without the benefit of hindsight, but man, I am pretty sure I could at least have seen higher uncertainty on Allen at the time.
Allen was awful at wyoming. Lots of scouts just blamed his teammates, but some of those guys on offense were pretty solid. edit–and a few are still in the NFL, one on the bills (tanner gentry) Jacob Hollister (and I think a few others made training camps at least) and he was pretty bad early in the NFL but unreal arm and good athleticsm and had the mental makeup to pan out. Good for him. Sometimes the tools guys and not much else actually do get there is the lesson learned
Rosen just wasn’t good on anything and reports don’t have him with the mental makeup, but hey there may be a QB spot opening on the browns this year so…
edit2-- allen, the running back, the tight end, and the wide receiver are all in the NFL (the RB is now in the CFL but was in the NFL last year) were all on the same college team in 2016 and they went 8-6. Jeez
edit again-- AND one of the OL, (a center for the commanders) that’s how bad he was in college, that team on offense, should’ve been beating up everyone and they weren’t.
