The NFL Thread 2: 1. T Swift

But do you think that they think they are copying the Bengals?

No, theyā€™re copying the Rams. But the reason theyā€™re copying that strategy is because now they think if the Bengals can go from last to the SB, then maybe they can too (and they arenā€™t even starting from as bad a spot as the Bengals)

Whatā€™s crazy about the receiver market is receivers come into the NFL nearly ready. Which makes their initial contract super valuable.

Not sure why teams rushing to pay second contracts.

Well this sucks. No one trades a HOF talent in his prime and makes out like bandits.

But if weā€™d have given Hill the contract the Dolphins did, weā€™d also be pretty threadbare. We could make it work for a couple of years but then we might have some rough years after. Veach is clearly going for trying to keep the SB window open every year with Mahomes. Weā€™ll see how it works out!

One other aspect - Hillā€™s speed is still all there, but the last couple years heā€™s had steadily more drops. He used to pull down everything in traffic. He had a huge drop at the beginning of the 49ers SB that could have changed the complexion of the game. And last year he almost single-handedly lost us a couple games this year dropping easy passes that went for INTs in huge spots. He signed some endorsement deal for gloves last year that a lot of people thought contributed to it.

So he might already be on the decline in that aspect. Weā€™ll see.

ESPN shitting on this deal for the Chiefs showed that they should have been ignored ages ago.

I like the deal for the Chiefs too

but man that offense is gonna take a hit unless mecole steps up to an actual deep threat

Arenā€™t there also quite a few good receivers in the draft this year? Juju/MVS/Hardeman/Kelce is at least an average receiving group anyways.

Lots of guys in the draft running in the 4.3ā€™s though.

Mahomes should be able to succeed with that group even if they donā€™t draft a good WR.

Yeah seems like a more analytical league will support just going balls to the wall (Rams style) and then incurring INSANE dead money hits down the road despite big salary cap rises over next few seasons. Wonder when the first team to have half its salary cap be dead money occurs. Seems like itā€™s coming.

Also ESPN saying 3 year total of Hills deal is 3/72.5m (plus the year he was left) so might be similar to Adams deal where there are absolutely insane cap hits at the end making them a must cut/restructure but boosting their apy for ā€¦ Ego reasons?

Deep receiving class this year. Lot of speed demons too.

Plenty of Tyreek types waiting to be picked.

Theyā€™d be incredibly lucky to get anything close to Hill. You donā€™t get a top #3 WR in the draft very often.

Hillā€™s got two years before his legs slow up and people start talking about how he canā€™t catch a cold.

Even if the receiver isnā€™t as great as Hill, the other 4 players will certainly offset that and save a ton of money to boot.

not this year they wonā€™t

I think heā€™ll stay fast. Heā€™s super durable and a block of solid muscle. Desean Jackson is still fast. Like I said, Iā€™m more worried about the drops.

Canā€™t be worse than Goff

Desean Jackson had one season with more than 800 yards receiving after Hillā€™s age and was mostly terrible after 28. The odds of Hill being a top 5 WR in his 30s has to be close to 0.
