The NFL Thread 2: 1. T Swift

If we simplify this down to that level, where every team is guaranteed to get the ball once and there is no change in field orientation at halftime, winning the pregame coin toss would result in a lot more teams choosing field orientation. That probably outweighs possession sequencing except in dome games (unless you’ve got awful sun angles like in Dallas and maybe elsewhere)

Yeah but notice how Big Brain Walt thought he heard a choice that only a fool would make and jumped on it instead of confirming what he heard was correct. That’s why the rule sucks. It’s a built-in dominated option that only allows stupid shit to happen.

I don’t understand why you’re trying to bake more advantages into the coin toss. Isn’t the entire point of the coin to remove as much advantage as possible by “fairly” dictating who gets to make unbalanced strategic decisions? Also, the scenario you’re proposing basically never happens. Instead, what happens at a much higher rate in practice is that a player miscommunicates his true intention or an lol ref botches it.

Well at least we now agree that Walt knew the rule, so there is no reason to do this:

Moreover, Walt did attempt to confirm:

Dak should know that the answer to “You want to kick?” is almost NEVER yes. You never want to kick barring some weird edge cases. You only kick because the other team makes you.

Bolded is exactly what the current rules do. In each half the team who has the first option can pick the most advantageous thing for their team to do. Even in edge cases.

Yes. I think player miscommunication is more common than ref botch. And I find that hilarious. I’m OK with the effect on the game as the rule itself is something you can easily explain to a child of average intelligence. Teams really shouldn’t have a problem with this. Just pick one player who isn’t an idiot. Give them less than 10 min of instruction and then have them do all the coin tosses. Problem solved.

The Cleveland Browns are 11-5 & playoff bound.

That is the post.

They were in the AFCCG like 3 yrs ago, right? The feeling can’t be that novel.

They made the playoffs 3 years ago, but not the AFCCG. They gave KC a run in the divisional.

The only other time they’ve made the playoffs since coming back to the league was in 2002.

Wat lol

The years since have been awful, and this season has ben so improbable that it does indeed feel novel.

The amount of injuries they’ve overcome to stars and starters makes it hit different too.

When Chubb went down every Browns fan wrote the season off.

being halfway between cleveland and pittsburgh, it’s been especially fun that it’s happening as the steelers are down. their fans are obnoxious and seeing them squirm is entertaining.

One more time, for those who missed it. 11-5 with this kind of adversity is nothing short of a miracle. Oh, and add starting WR1 to that list as well.

And WR2 went to the hospital in the first half.

They also played the LolJets

The last time the Browns made the playoffs in back to back years was under Marty Shottenheimer.

Misremebered the divisional game with KC. Sorry.

Flacco is playing some of the worst teams in the league

Grats to the browns but they are a juicy playoff snack for the actual good teams.
