big Liam Gallagher vibes
Brady is super self deprecating. Itās the only way he knows how to be funny during press conferences - heās always talking about what a terrible athlete he is, things he screwed up.
I think heāll be a bad announcer, but:
- even if heās bad, he may be the only PBP guy that can move a ratings needle. Nuthuggers like me will tune in to hear the GOAT and haters will tune in to hate.
- Thereās some chance heās more charismatic than we think. He was always buttoned up publicly in New England, but all (and I do mean all) of his teammates love him. Guys likes James Harrison, Ochocinco, and Lesean McCoy who spent very little time with him love that guy. Canāt do that without some charisma.
Also: Troy Aikman is the definition of a bore, and there are a lot of people that think heās among the best color guys.
I was told that Romo was legit told by NFL brass to stop predicting plays. Not sure why but Iām sure we can all figure it out. I read this on more than one sports site but whatever. Seems like since then heās just eating during broadcasts and mailing it in and cashing checks
Heās my gfās favorite
Is anyone tuning in based on whoās announcing the game?
Good announcers enhance the viewing experience, but Iām not going to skip a good matchup due to whoās calling it.
I think I might need you to ELI5 why for me. Iām not saying youāre wrong. I just legit canāt figure out why.
because it makes the game and the coaches look simple, at least thatās my first assumption
Just a knee-jerk reaction to Protect the Shield and what have you
The dudeās literal job was to run an offense and read a defense. How surprised should anyone be that he can tell what may be coming?
Oh I agree totally! Itās really dumb. But the take from a couple of supposed āinsidersā was that he was that they felt that it was making them look stupid for whatever reason. It could all just be wanton speculation for all I know but heās never denied it, only said stuff like he was ānever supposed to be doing that in the first placeā etc. I know it was said on like the Lebatard show and iird awful announcing too
Iām curious how much Buck and Troy impacted the numbers vs the Manningcast.
Kills suspense. (Most people wouldnāt want someone whoās great at guessing plot twists watching a movie with them.)
Collinsworth was known for it too, so I donāt know about the legitimacy of the rumor, but Romo was very look-at-me Louie so I could see them telling him to tone it down and let the game be the star.
Wilson trade was flashier and they sucked and the fans
stopped buying tickets.
If Payton doesnāt wināand without any draft capital to replenish a mediocre roster that seems probableāthe fans wonāt pay to see him purse his lips in a visor.
Dallas is a brand like Pittsburgh in its own class. Theyāll never not have hundreds of thousands of people not wanting to go to Jerryworld.
Iām sure it helped to sell season tickets in the offseason. So will the Payton hire. Itās easy to forget that Denver was the betting favorite in the AFC West before the season.
Denver will not be a betting favorite to win more than 8 games.
ETA: were they?

Aug 11: The Chiefs remain the favorites heading into the preseason at +175. But the Chargers (+220) and Broncos (+275) have certainly closed the gap.
No kidding. My point is from the ownerās perspective this move might make sense for their wallets even though it doesnāt on the field. The NFL has a ton of parity, fans know this, and as such any sniff of possible success will sell tickets. Even the NFL pundit class gets duped all the time which was why I brought up the offseason hype around Denver last year.
If you have almost no chance to be any good for years arenāt you better off maximizing ticket revenue? Thatās all Iām getting at.
I thought before week 1 it was actually the Chargers.
Maybe there is more of a thirst for Payton amongst fans than Iām aware. A splashy hire does seem like it could stoke the fanbase, but Denver seems like a fairly astute fan base and I think the Russ bubble burst fully last year.
Denver could be in deep shit if Las Vegas manages to land a good QB.
Maybe it was. I remember having someone mention to me the Broncos were the favorites to win the AFC West. I thought I looked and it was close to even between the 3 with Broncos slight favorite. Might be misremembering though.
Also that blurb you posted was from a month before the season started.
