he blocked me when I agreed with one of his tweets, he’s that guy, I knew he’d auto block any I criticized (which he does quite a bit cause he’s an old football guy)
but yes he’s got quite the takes
also he has a scouting camp he charges obscene numbers for–he was bears director of college scouting when they drafted nobody worth a damn except one guy (tommie harris who was very good until he got hurt) in the first round for 9 years.
nobody hired him in the NFL after that
he constantly says “teams know what they’re doing” and everyone who slipped the NFL was right blah blah blah, like you’re going to make mistakes and there’s some nuance/luck in the draft we’re all human it’s fine stop it
Yeah, sometimes it just feels good to remind the doubters. Long as I’m here, final ranks for Lawrence’s season:
9th in yards
t-8th in TDs
6th in INT%*
4th in sack %
8th in ANY/A
6th in DVOA
7th in DYAR**
(* - PFR lists him as 7th because both he and Herbert round to 1.4%, but Herbert is at 1.43% and Lawrence is at 1.37%)
(** - If you added their rushing DYAR, he’d pass Joe Burrow for 6th. Lawrence has 948 passing DYAR and 15 rushing DYAR; Burrow has 951 passing DYAR and 8 rushing DYAR.)
Really hope they get him a true #1 receiver. Kirk has been productive this year but the rest of those guys are either old or scheme-dependent imo. (And Kirk is role-dependent to a certain degree as well.) National championship game aside, I really like Quentin Johnston, but I think there are a number of guys who are gonna be legit in the NFL (and now that they’re in the playoffs, they probably won’t draft high enough for Johnston anyway).
Calvin Ridley I feel like fits true #1 WR. I know its been 2 years so there is a chance it doesn’t work out. But I don’t feel like round 1 HAS to be an Offensive player. I’m hoping a CB fits right in. Also good with one of the OTs dropping.
Good point, I keep forgetting about Ridley. I’m just not that high on the Joneses at this point (Marvin is getting too old; Zay is very role- and scheme-dependent), and between Ridley’s age and taking two years off, I’m not sure what his ceiling is. If they added a star receiver in the draft it could be their own middle-class version of Chase / Higgins / Boyd, and we’ve seen how much that’s done for Burrow.
OT would probably be good as well. I guess I haven’t really started my draft research in terms of knowing what to expect regarding talent available at their pick.
Jawaan Taylor is a UFA after this season and Cam Robinson only has 1 year left. Bartch, Scherff and Fortner are locked in and one of the better interior lines there are. Shatley has filled in well for Bartch and could be a longer answer if Bartch doesn’t come back 100%. Walker Little has surpassed all expectations and is the one reason I’m not sold on OT for the draft. Jags OL could be seen as an elite unit going into next year. It’s just the decision at tackle that will make or break it.
Zay Jones is a solid to good Y. Kirk is an excellent Z. Jags are missing the all important X. Kirk has played well there this year. And it has forced MJJ to lineup as a Z too much. If Ridley can be that #1 and allow Kirk to move to the slot with ZJ this is more than fine for a War corps. I think also it depends on Engram. He has exploded as both a blocker and receiver. Do the Jags pony the money up for him? Or feel comfortable enough with the addition of Calvin.
Pretty sure one can claim the bears “technically” gave up a first round pick for Claypool. Their second I’m pretty sure is pick 32 overall due to a forfeit of a pick.
That Cards playoff game after Carson Palmer and his backup both got hurt was kinda entertaining just for the ineptitude. I remember toward the end they juuuust escaped having the lowest playoff yardage total ever, then had a wacky lateral play that went for like -30 in the final seconds to seal the record.
