It is crazy. Monday and Thursday are flipping and mondays getting mostly horrible games now.
Watching last MNF I was lamenting the history and records of MNF. When it was almost always two strong teams, having a good winning record had some cachet. Now it is becoming watered down and meaningless.
Yea MNF used to be epic. I remember in 1990 the Giants and 49rs were both 10-0 and supposed to meet in week 12. That game was being hyped for weeks about the possibility of 2 teams being 11-0. Both lost in week 11 and then 49rs won 7-3. Giants later beat them in the NFC Championship Game and then won SB25.
In the old days, ABC got to pick their game each week first for MNF so the matchups were usually always good. Now since the shakeup I believe NBC gets first crack for SNF
Yea and Deion Sanders would score like a million touchdowns against the Giants and be like āIām called Primetime for a reason.ā God I hated him LOL.
I have a conundrum with eagles / packers. As a cowboys fan I donāt like either but the eagles are always on the top of the eternal list.
But with the eagles 1-2 and the packers 3-0 both potentially compete for nfc playoff spots with the cowboys. I am going to wind up rooting for the eagles because they are a divisional opponent and them going to 1-3 would be great. Especially since they are likely to be the strongest competition over the course of a season. However depending on how things sort out the cowboys could be competing with green bay for playoff spots or home field advantage and them not being 4-0 would be nice.
They play them quite a bit but schedule is mostly record based and playing teams in other divisions in their similar position so it may be a coincidence.
I donāt understand why the NFL does stuff like that, but they do. Miami and Baltimore have played every year since 2013 except for last year, even in years when the rest of their divisions did not play each other. Four of the six games were in Miami
6 games in your division
4 games against teams in a division in your conference (rotating)
2 games against teams that finished in the same place in the other two divisions in your conference
4 games against teams in a division in the other conference (rotating)
I think the scheduling is stupid. It should be 6 games in your division. You definitely need that for tiebreaker scenarios.
The other 10 games should be based on rivalries and matchups. The Jets and Giants should always play each other once a year. Same w/ Cowboys and Texans. Eagles and Steelers. Things like that. Then you can do match ups like KC vs NE so people can see Mahomes/Brady. Let the shitty teams play each other w/ no national exposure. Want better match ups? Make your team better. Iād much rather have the Dolphins play the Bengals and not give a shit rather than see Miami/Bengals vs KC on MNF knowing the score is going to be 35-0 before the first commercial break.
The NFL shouldnāt be set up so Brady/Rodgers meet once every 8 years or whatever it is.
This is the bit I was missing. I had no idea it worked like this. Otherwise they could just mix it up, like let Miami play Green Bay and Dallas play Baltimore rather than status quo.
thereās always a Steelers/Bengals game on MNF because the bloodiest rivalries get the best ratings. They legit want someone to die out there, and that matchup is one of the best chances. Nothing to do with their records.
Wellā¦it was. This year it just feels soā¦meh. No Burfict, no AB, no Pacman, no Benā¦just boring.
