The Great Resignation: Remote workplaces and the future of work

The wife has the home office. I’m a work hobo in my own home, doing calls and soreadsheets from the couch, the kitchen table, or the bedroom.

The chihuahua prefers any situation where she can Velcro to my hip.

Look at California go (I guess CO and NY too).

I’m a fan of these rules to increase transparency. Honestly if it just got rid of “DOE” as the advertised salary I’d think it a win.

Colorado has had that law for some time, which is really great as a job seeker. However, some companies get away with posting stuff like “the range for this position is $50,000 to $150,000 depending on qualifications”.

Yup, theres just gonna be more of that. Id never apply to a company with that kind of range

In my industry it is very hard to get good info because a huge part of comp is bonus and different firms have very different bonus structures. Also there just aren’t that many people doing my specific job. Like maybe a thousand people nationally. Super annoying.

Moving this over here because I don’t want to distract from the GOP insanity.

Interesting that you’ve changed your tune a bit over the past year, while mine has only hardened.

As I mentioned in the business thread lately, I’m not even getting interviews anymore for jobs that I am 100% qualified for, leaving basically 3 options:

  • The job is competitive and has no problem being filled.
  • The employer doesn’t actually want to fill the position but is making a job posting for some reason.
  • Gross incompetence on the part of the employer (e.g. unintentionally eliminating qualified applicants, job description written horribly, etc.)

What types of jobs are people in your area having trouble being filled? And are these really jobs that “simply more bodies” would solve?

Can definitely see firms using the recession to bully people back into offices:

People now quiet quitting before they even get the job

Me with 10 minutes left in the interview: all right, now’s a good time for you to ask me about anything you’re interested in
candidate: I think I’m good

THAT’S SOCIALISM!

My company (in tech) just announced a strict 3 days in person with 2 of those “shared” with the larger team/org. The message was quite emphatic on how they had listened to us and seen what works well!

BAHAHAHAHA.

We require three days of free labor, get fuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked

Just claim that none of them are a “good fit” and you get unlimited free labor!

A real race to the.bottom in America.

Should name and shame these companies.
