The problem is the bad parts seem to be the unacceptable categories. From our argument tonight he’s just completely brainwashed. I’m trying to get him with the argument that his Republicans are Cheney, Romney, McCain, and both Bushes - all anti-Trump and all pariahs in today’s GOP. Also hit him with a Reagan quote on immigration. Does he really think the people he voted for for president from like 1980 to 2012 are a bunch of liberal deep state communists?
I think that’s got the best shot to bring him off the deep end. Ultimately he either stops watching Fox News or he’s a goner, because every time he watches it and we don’t discuss politics for a few months, he shifts right. Just usually not very far and I bring him back. But this was extrene. I can’t allow anti-immigrant sentiment in our lives. I won’t subject my girlfriend to that.
He’s already supposed to visit in a few days so he suggested we debate it then.
I know some people are excited by the possibility of Trump being convicted of a crime that precludes him from federal office, but I suspect that if SCOTUS we’re to rule on it, they’d hold that, similar to US Term Limits Inc v Thornton, Congress can’t impose stricter qualifications for president than what vis in the Constitution.
My father is a Trumper, he was also an absntee Dad from ages 8 till way into my adulthood. My wife is an immigrant, she only has a green card because we are married. And while he is a deplorable Trump loving asshole, he fucking loves his grandson more then anything the world.
We don’t talk politics. We both know we don’t agree so we just don’t do it. I can’t save him from the post retirement bordem vacuum that Fox News has filled. I have accepted it, you can too.

Reporters are repeating it incessantly and uncritically. It’s like “state’s rights”–state’s rights to do what? Just “missing documents”. Like documents concerning a $500M pension from the Saudi’s or pay to play for pardons or whatever? We’ll find out soon enough. It ain’t thank you notes and dinner menus.
