I’m reading The Reactionary Mind right now, and it does a great job of explaining what we are seeing. These folks are all medium/big fish in their small ponds all across the country. They have a modicum of power in their little worlds/fiefdoms, and they see the left as a threat, one way or another, to their power: taxes (because they are all barely rich or living way beyond their means faking it), competition for jobs, less power in relationships, less power over their employees, etc.
