That’s the problem. A lot of the shit you would have to do could be quite unethical, so when you have one team playing who actually gives a shit about ethics, and one team with no scruples at all, you end up with a game where one side of the field is filled with people rolling around with their achelies slashed, and one side of the field having a bunch of able bodied people with knives in their teeth.

Yeah, I do see that tension. People hate on Dems for trying to uphold norms but it seems obvious there is some value to that. The problem is that game theoretically, you’re going to get crushed if only one side cares.
And that said, I don’t think they would need to act unethically to exert power. There is plenty that they could do that would be an exertion of political power while remaining ethical. Passing HR1 and adding DC/PR/USVI/Guam/etc. would not be unethical.
I guess what I (and I assume most of us here) want to see is a party that uses all the tools available to them while still upholding the law. So I’m fine with a D Senate giving the R President the Garland treatment on a SCOTUS nominee, but I’m not fine with a D Senate refusing to recognize a R election winner. Doesn’t seem like too much to ask, and maybe we’re heading in that direction.
