The Final Debate: Biden v Trump the Shitshow wrapped in a clusterfuck having sex with a goatshow inside a dumpster fire

Hmm, maybe it could work. I still don’t think they’ll do it. As said above, there’s risk there, and Biden isn’t the one who needs to take risks now.

You want to hold a German woman accountable for not watching a US presidential debate?

Yeah, she’s probably just an ignorant fool with a phd who reads this site from Germany but doesn’t actually know anything about politics.

Important for you to police the intellectual integrity of the forum by calling her out so harshly.

How about this?

Meh, I disagree. There was literally no debate moderator who could have done much else, short of actually muting Trump’s microphone which was probably not something he had the ability to do because of the debate rules everyone agreed to. Like, he’s a foxnews anchor and he actually fucking fact-checked Trump a few times. And he definitely tried to shut Trump up multiple times. He did not do that to Biden (I get that that’s because Biden wans’t interrupting like Trump was), but I’m not sure what people expected Wallace to do here. I voted zero on Wallace, but I would have voted that on anyone. Literally short of getting up on stage and putting his hand over Trump’s mouth, what was he supposed to do?

No. Don’t validate the bs in paragraph 2. Everyone says it was a disaster and only the FNC echo chamber would pound the drum about being scared.

I have many, many issues with Wallace, but I think, if anything, it was helpful for Trump to melt down with him as a moderator. Wouldn’t have been as effective if it were some msnbc or cnn host.

I’ll call out Clovis too. Him saying “There was quite literally nothing to learn from that debate. Not one piece of new information.” makes me think he didn’t understand anything that happened last night. At least we watched it.

She has repeatedly asserted it is pointless to care about politics and that she has no privilege in holding that belief and you reminding me that she is an otherwise intelligent German engineer doesn’t change that. I’m sure if I went on a crafting forum to mostly blog about my life while reminding everyone that caring about scrapbooking is a waste of time they’d be super understanding about it. Oh but if you pick the wrong scrapbook black people die and brown people get forced hysterectomies.

What was the new piece of information we learned from the debate?

Was hoping for Biden to say, “At least I took my own tests.”

And what was Trump’s conspiracy, that Biden didn’t actually go to Delaware State? Is that from Hannity or something? Maybe Trump can send some people to Delaware to investigate?

My complaint with Wallace isn’t failing to reign in Trump, it is with his awful questions.

No, he wants to hold her accountable for her decision to “check out” from politics and then trying to use this debate as proof that her decision is a good one. (Which also implies that everybody who watched it or pays more than superficial attention to this stuff is wasting their time, or worse.)

Exactly this. The lead-in to his questions made a ton of dubious assertions regarding “positive” things that Trump has “done”. Also, the whole, “Sir…Sir…Mr. President…Mr. President…Sir…Sir…Sir you’re really going to like this next question…Sir…Sir, you’re going to love the next question” thing wasn’t particularly cool.

The questions don’t matter as much as you think. A good politician can pivot away from a question they don’t like and answer the question they should have been asked.

I don’t have a strong opinion either way, but Liu makes a decent point.

She basically went on to a baseball forum, grunched the 1500 post thread about game 1 of the world series, then casually asked for confirmation that watching the game was a huge waste of time.

Do you think it’s a genuine question that she wants an answer to? Do you think she would actually reflect on a nuanced explanation about why last night was important or relevant? Of course not.

Next day reactions seem to focus on how much of an asshole Trump is. PI has Biden up 3 additional points from yesterday. I don’t see how undecided voters watched last night and decide to vote Trump. They either vote Biden or don’t vote at all (more likely). Obviously his base loved it but that’s obvious and irrelevant.

Proud Boys is no 1 trending on Twitter.

I’m sure Trump’s backers must be proud.
