I got an âAâ from a famous philosopher on a paper arguing that the âproblem of deductionâ was similar to the problem of induction (that is, ungrounded outside itself). I basically borrowed, with attribution, the discussion from Godel, Escher, Bach where the tortoise and the hare argue about If A then B; A; therefore ???. I think the argument is borrowed from Lewis Carroll.
I think one big problem of Yudkowsky is that he didnât go to college and wasnât forced to write random papers on various topics on demand, so he never developed guardrails for his thinking. Sure he, like Skanlansky, is smart, but he was never âcheckedâ by the system. Basically, an untrained athlete (a mediocre wrestler with two years of experience will beat any stud).
