The constitutional theory is it allows the president to balance the judiciary. Of course, like everything in the US system it sounds nice in theory and works exactly never.

Prior to Trump the political favor pardons were actually the rare (but high profile) exceptions and not the rule. But yes, Trump has demonstrated the problem with the system.

Point taken. It was supposed to be said from a Trumpian worldview (as he as commented that so and so is not attractive enough for him to have come on to so it’s ridiculous that he would harass them implying that he would harass someone more to his liking) but my quick joke form did not convey that well at all. The crudeness was part of that and really missed the mark as well.

Ok never was overstating. Too often it’s used to help cronies and not people in actual need.
I’d be ok with a 60% threshold for overrules or concurrence.
Maybe depending on the type of crime. The bigger the crime the more congress has to say OK.

It really would be the most Trump thing for him to Pocket Veto the Omnibus while golfing in Florida, forcing the new Congress to try to pass the bill again after they are sworn in. Just one last governmental shutdown before he leaves office, one more mess for someone else to clean up…
