dude, the fucking comey letter was enough to swing 2016. Checks going out would have been a much bigger impact to a much larger number of people (a couple of orders of magnitude at least).
Trump had the option to mail out free money with his name on it to voters and he whiffed. Just the dumbest own goal in modern politics. To be fair, Mitch would have held up a bigger COVID relief bill, but Trump should have been tweeting about wanting to hand out free money instead of Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Yea Trump really is the dumbest moron on the planet. All he had to do in February/March was warn us about the virus, and tweet every week he wants to put money in people’s hands. He would have gotten 90 million votes and won 40 states.

The problem I see with a lot of these counter factual arguments is they are basically saying that If Trump wasn’t Trump he would have won. Dude isn’t capable of another gear.

I don’t you can plan a Trump, I think it just happens. The smarter ones wouldn’t have the fucked up background Trump did that lead to him being a low level celebrity.
I think “Trump’s style” and “doing basic shit correctly” are like complementary variables. You can get one or the other, but never more than an imprecise bit of both at the same time. “Trump’s style” and a large appeal of that style is specifically not doing basic shit correctly. Saying the wrong things and doing the wrong things is his appeal to the failed deplorables who want that permission to act out and revel in their own irreverence.

I think you guys are shockingly naive if you don’t think a savvy media personality couldn’t copy Trump’s overall style and not commit these basic own-goals.
I’ve always thought Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly could flip on a dime if they wanted and turned into liberal personalities, and they would have been just as believable. I really doubt they believe everything they say. Its just part of the shtick.
