Not breaking new ground here, but why the fuck does he put “screwed” in quotation marks? If you want to emphasize it, and this seems like the time you would want to, you would call upon your ALL CAPS powers and type out SCREWED. I’m nonplussed by this.
If Mitch lets his nomination get to the floor, then he gets confirmed.
If Mitch doesn’t (perhaps due to overwhelming pressure from other senators), then they just tell Trump to pick someone else.
There are no scenarios where Rudy makes it to a vote and doesn’t get confirmed. He either gets confirmed or not even nominated. There is no other possibility.
If given the opportunity to swap Handmaid Amy, Boof, or Gorsuch with Rudy right now I’d snap accept. Obviously he’ll live to be 104 because evil people never die young, but I’d roll those dice over the 50 year olds for sure.
Original Jurisdiction means the case can start at the Supreme Court. Usually, cases have to start at a lower court and then make their way up to the Supreme Court after someone appeals. But there is a small subset of types of cases where it gets filed directly with SCOTUS.
Original jurisdiction - you can bring case directly to that court. This is opposed to appellate jurisdiction whereby you have to bring in a lower court and appeal to the higher court.
Constitution provides very limited original jurisdiction to SCOTUS - one of which is disputes between states, which was the Texas lawsuits basis for bringing case directly to SCOTUS.
Thanks. I guess if I’m understanding it correctly Thomas and Alito seem to have a perfectly legitimate position. In some ways it seems more correct. Of course, I know nothing. And I assume this question has already been addressed in some fashion in the past, so there are precedents to refer to.
