The beer, wine, and spirits thread

Quoting my own post re:Vermouth. Love the stuff, particularly in the summer as an aperitif.

Nice.

I think the price has gone up a bit lately but for simple tequila cocktails like ranch water or margaritas I usually go with the Olmeca Altos, solid quality and usually affordable for a handle.

As far as recommendations, definitely check for stuff in the flavor profile you’re looking for at somewhere like Tequila Matchmaker. I like blancos like the Don Abraham and other organic ones because the agave flavor is the really dominant one there, and that’s what I prefer. The Corazón is oxygenated during the distillation process, which gives it a unique softer texture. I also would recommend the Fortaleza if you can find it for its uniqueness; I think they use a different yeast or something, similar to a Belgian yeast, because it has a different texture and those hints of banana you get from beers that do that. Beyond that the details of many of my other recommendations escape me.

Epic. Genuinely curious for your feedback on the Grand Mayan.

Great haul from Treehouse for Thanksgiving week. I’m going to be bloated as hell next Sunday. But you know what? IDGAF.

Let me know how Aaalter Ego is. Haven’t had that one but love the regular.

Heady, but not sweet. Maybe a little piney. I can’t compare it to Alter Ego because it’s been so long since I’ve had that beer, but this one is delicious. It’s a quintessential kicked-up Treehouse, I wish I had more of them!

My wife made fun of me for taking this photo, then roasted me when I said the photo was for a guy on the internet. So please make the most of this mediocre beer review.

Tell your wife the random guy on the internet appreciates it! Glad you enjoyed hard to find a miss with Treehouse.

After sleeping from 5 pm until noon today in my airbnb I think the booster shit has worn off.

Atlanta people don’t have the southern accent I experienced in Virginia at Lockn festival.

I’ve skipped out on the Duvel holiday pack (4 beers plus tulip) recently, but I saw one this year and it’s an anniversary glass, so I felt compelled.

Just a solid Belgian IPA that I enjoy a few times each winter, and then don’t think about for the other 10-11 months of the year.

Also, I happened upon a 4 pack of Vanilla Deth from Revolution and I can’t wait to try it. Probably Sunday or Monday night.

You will not be disappointed.

This thing is quite tasty:

“Conditioned on toasted waffles” I’m just imagining a giant vat filled with Eggos.

I wouldn’t put it past them. They do some weird shit there.

As it turns out, I am not disappointed! This is really fantastic. I was a little concerned when I poured it - there was virtually no carbonation. Not much vanilla, either, but that’s ok because I think vanilla can be cloying and artificial tasting sometimes. This is just smooth as silk and the ABV is dangerously hidden.

Edit: Jesus, 13.6% ABV and I just downed it like it was Coors Light.

Chicago peeps - highly recommend you stop into Duneyr Fermentations. I stumbled into it during a trip a couple weekends ago and I still think about it. Amazing beer.

Yeah I didn’t want to opine any further than I did, but I agree completely with your take. The vanilla is really subtle and kind of builds on your palate over the course of the can.

love too have a hangover from drinking a single 12 oz beer.

Bringing out the big guns for Christmas. This is a local brewery (Wolf’s Ridge out of Columbus OH) that I think is pretty excellent. Their base barrel-aged barleywine is excellent, and this is the coffee version.

Fairly thin for such a high ABV beer, but really really tasty. Killed the entire 22 oz bottle (after a year where I haven’t been drinking very much), and now I’m supposed to learn how to play Sushi Go with the rest of the family. So my review of this beer as a beer is 9/10, but as a component of a healthy family Christmas is 2/10.

Looks awesome. I’m sick (not covid thankfully) so I had to put my big Xmas beers on the back burner today. Maybe next weekend for new years.

Additionally, and only because I want to whine, my 5 mo old went to urgent care yesterday afternoon with what was diagnosed as an early case of pneumonia, and my 3 year old woke up screaming last night with an ear infection so that was a 1am trip to urgent care. This has been without a doubt the absolute worst Christmas of my life, ainec.

Thankfully their meds seem to be working so they’re doing ok, but mom and I are miserable.

I think I play squid over wasabi if I have both. I don’t want to gift the next player 9 points in two cards. I’m not sure if this is the best play.
